Henry Hazard, naturalisation agent, ob
jected to the final papers for Wurgeft
on the ground thafW. Margulls has
been Involved in too many cases where
the moral question was the issue. The
agent read a long list of police court
arrests and prosecutions from bouses to
which Margulls holds a lease.. "I don't
think citizenship is worth coming back
for," said Charles H. Paddlson yester
day afternoon, when tie was asked 'to
study the government more and report
in 30 days. At this statement the court
directed that Paddison's application be
denied with prejudice, which means that
he must jyeit five jrears before again
"asking for citizenship. .Wllhelm Rlttel
was denied final papers on the ground
that he was Illegally in the United
States. It was , shown by the govern
ment that he deserted an English ship
while it was in an American harbor.
Judge Xemoves Phone Judge McGinn
I has had his telephone in court chambers
removed. "Too much bother" is the rea-
son given by the Judge for discontinuing
his service. When the judges moveo.
into the new rooms last fall. Judge Mc
Glnn gave orders that his court room

two telephones would cause .too muoh
annoyance during the course of trials.
Soon after entering the new chambers,
the Judge directed that the bailiff not
call him during the progress of a trial,
but all calls would be answered during
recess or at noon. A few days ago, the.
telephone jwasjsusy during the forenoon
session of court. The Judge that after
noon ordered that service to his room be
discontinued. "Attorneys wanting to see
me about business should come to the
courthouse," says the Judge. In each
of the other court rooms, the Judges
have both telephones.
Iron Jawed Kan Arrested Joe De-
nuff, the "Iron Jawed Wonder," who
lifts a horse with his teeth, cannot
support his wife, who had him arrested
yesterday on a charge of non-support
Denuff was arrested at Hlllsboro, where
he u giving exhibitions of his
strength with the Arnold shows. Deputy
Sheriff Salisbury brought the man to
Multnomah county last evening and
placed him in the county Jail to await
trial for the charge made by Mrs. De
nuff. "I'd support her If I could." he
says, "but I can't make any money lift
ing horses, biting nails in two parts, or
giving demonstrations of strength."
Denuff has traveled the vaudeville cir
cuits, giving exhibitions of his strength.

annual meeting of the Oregon State
Society of Public Accountants, held
Wednesday night in the office of the
president, officers were elected as fol
lows: President, John Y. Richardson;
vice president, E: H. Coills; secretary
treasurer, W. D. Whltcomb; auditor,
Lester Thompson. They succeeded Wil
liam Whltcomb, J. M. Ferguson, John Y.
Richardson and Alex C. Rae. S. S.

Bartender Kills Himself Fred
Broucher, 38 years old, bartender em
ployed by Tanni & Carbarino, committed
Uiclde last night in his room at the
Hooster hotel at 205 Jefferson by drink
lng carbollo acid. His body was found
at 10 o clock last night by the chamber
maid. Little is known of Broucher's
relatives except that there is a sister in
the cuy and a brother somewhere in
Washington.
Gang Torments Tailor Boyish pranks
directed at M. Fiebel, a tailor at 1357
Sandy Road, led him to appeal to the
police to stop a gang of six or seven
boys from annoying him. He declared
mat the gangsters, ranging in aire from
17 to 20 years, have tormented him every
evening for some time. He said he can
stanl It no longer.

Beilroed Kan Killed F. S. Gatler, 68
rears old, of Aurora, Or., employed by
the. Southern Pacific, was fatally in
jured yesterday at Aurora and died in
Portland shortly after being taken to
the Good Samaritan hospital. He was'
crushed about the head and sustained in
ternal injuries.

many and one from' Scotland. Owing
to this fact the contest has taken on
international aspects. The Journal has
already cautioned the Judges to take
great care In making their choice of tho
prettiest baby, for it is serious busi
ness this choosing the handsomest in
fant when each Is individually the most
beautiful in all the world in the eyes
of its parents.
Watch tomorrow's Journal, because
the names of the three persons who will
Judge the photographs and choose the
prettiest baby will be announced In It
For those who are Impatient to know
the names of those who comprise th!a
most Important tribunal it can only be
stated at this time that they are well
known Fortlanders and have compre
hensive knowledge of babies and their
ways.
They will begin their work imme
diately after the contest closes Mon
day evening at 6 o'clock and their choice
of the first second and third prettiest
babies, in their opinion, will be an
nounced in The Journal Tuesday aft
ernoon. At the same time the photos
of the babies winning The Journal's
three special prizes will be published.
The first prise will be box t-he
Helllg, where Margaret Mayo's delight
ful farce, "Baby Mine," will be played
next week. The second prize will be
four lower floor seats and the third
prize two lower floor seats. "Baby
Mine" Is a wonderfully funny play, a
vivid depiction of the feelings, trials
and tribulations of a' man who finds
himself, quite unexpectedly, the father
of triplets. The first performance Is
billed for Sunday night and the last
Wednesday evening. Monday night the
parents of the first 60 babies whose
photos were received .will attend tho
show.
For those who by some mischance
have overlooked the rules and who want
to enter their baby In the contest the
rules are reprinted. They are: Babv
must be four years old or under. Its
photograph must bo mailed or delivered
to the city editor of The Journal before
Monday evening at 6 o'clock and the
name of the baby. Us nge and the proper
address of Us parents must be written
plainly on the back of the picture.
