workmen who arrived hero Sunday In
tended to cross the Columbia river to
work on the power dam of the North
western L.lght company that Is in course
of construction on th White Salmon
river, turned back when informed by the
I. W. W. pickets stationed at Hood River
that there was a strlKe on at the works
for higher wages and better meals. The
pickets etnte that no workmen have
crossed to the Washington side since the
strike has been ordered.

Hood hotel is makincr extensive improve
ments in the arrangement of tho interior
portion of the building. The office and
lobby will ba Increased to double Its
present size and the stairway leading to
the upper stories is being changed to n
new location. The new brick annex rer
cently finished haa been connected with
the main hotel by an ovorhead passway.
The new hotel has 200 rooms.

be of standard construction. The com
