neer by the reclamation aervlce on the.
weat extension of the Lmatllla project
shows that It has expended betwee
January, 1911, and September 12, 1911
the sum of $42,600. Over 24 square miles
of reservoir alt haa been mapped and
about 132 miles of Irrigation land. The
government haa authorized the expendl
ture of 1200,000 for the development o
this project.
Joint maneuvers In the Pacific north
west this summer will be held July 21
to 30 and will be participated in by the
organized militia of Oregon, Washing
ton and Idaho, the Twenty-first and
Twenty-fifth regular Infantry, a squad
ron of the First cavalry from Rolse
barracks and a battalion of the Second
field artillery.
In the city election held at MeMlnn
villa Tuesday, the granting of a fran
chise for a railroad on K street to the
Portland, West Coast Railroad A Navi
gation company, defeated. The de
feat of thla franchise Is attributed to
the fact tbat this company is not known
and the people were In doubt as to the
true Identity of the promoters.

federation of Oreat Britain, which has

operation of the recently enacted mini
mum wage act for miners, adjourned af
ter adopting a resolution which Indi
cates that the men are not averse to
nother fight. The resolution, which was
carried unanimously, records the federa
tions strenuous protest against the
wards being glver by the district wage
boards.
The defense committee of the Russian
uma hsB adopted unanimously the gov
ernment proposal to grant 602,000.000
roubles (1251,000,000) for the naval ship
building program.

of $189.13 per head was paid for 92
head of Imported Jersey stock which
were sold at auction Tuesday at the
H. West farm. Stockbreeders and dairy
men from different sections of the Pa
cific northwest were among the pur
chasers, and the bidding waa lively.
Of the stock sold. 70 cows were
bought up at an average of (205.40 per
head, and 22 bulls went st an average
of 1137.27 per head. C. K. Griffith of
the Glen Tana farm. Spokane, Wash.,
was the heaviest individual bidder.

Jamaica, I I., May 23. A memorial
tablet In honor of Brigadier General
Nathaniel Woodhull, a noted soldier of
the Revolution, was unveiled this after
noon at tho place near where General
Woodhull was mortally wounded while
resisting- capture by the British, on
August 28, 1776. The- Sons of the Revo-
tlon of the state of New York con-
