Three tenders for the docking and ex
amination of lie-lit vm.a! Nn. K7 were
submitted yesterday afternoon at the The Charles Bureau WiU Operate on
office of Henry L. Book, lighthouse In
spector for the Seventeenth district,
and the contract for the work was
awarded to the lowest bidder, which
was the Albina Engine & Machine
Works, at $95. The other bidders were
the Oregon Drydock company, 110,
and Anderson & Crowe, $98. The light
vessel will be docked within the next
lay or two. At tho present time the
Norwegian steamer Opland Is on tha
Oregon drydock, but It Is expected that
he will be lowered this afternoon or to
morrow morning.
UNUSUAL FEAT
Upper Columbia
White Bluffs. Wash., May 21. An
other new steamer was added to the
fleet operating on this section of the
Columbia river yesterday when the
Charles Bureau was sent through
.Priest rapids by her owner and cap
tain. Charles MacMlllan of Pasco. The
boat will g-o Into drydock' at Pasco for
repairs, and will go on schedule to
White Bluffs as soon as changes ara
made In her build. Strawberry shippers
are calling for more shipping facilities,
and an immense fruit crop will tax the
capacity of the boats.

Nero, via North Head, last night, the
local weather bureau accomplished an
unusual feat. In that It is very seldom
that a request comes In from a vessel
at sea for a prophesy of the weather
conditions likely to be found off the
coast comprised In this district. The
Nero, which was a long way south of
the Columbia river last night, sent a
wireless" to "the local weather office for
a forecast, as she Is headed for Alaska,
and District Forecaster E: A. Beals Im
mediately sent the required Information.
SNAKE RIVER RISES
The gas schooner Delia, Captain Casa
day, which arrived yesterday afternoon
from . Tillamook,- is scheduled to sail
again tonight or tomorrow morning for
Nestucca.
Laden with lumber for San Pedro, the
barkentine John Smith was towed from
Westport to Astoria at 5 o'clock this
morning by the steamer Ockiahama,

morning in tow of the steamer Johan
Poulsen, tha schooner Virginia is being
