GOVERNOR WANTS LEASE MONEY TURNED TO STATE - Salem. 0r, Feb, 20.--An fjQrt Is, be ing made by , Governor West to obtain for the state - fish- hatchery-, fund, the revenues, from leases of fishing fround on Sand island at the mouth' of the Columbia river, which now go to the national ' government This revenue amounts to 12,805 a year. In his letters to Senators Chamber lain and Bourne, Governor West said: "Since 1905 the war department has leased these. - grounds to a number of local fishing companies for: seining grounds. The revenue collected by the department now amounts to S12.SQS per annum and tha total . amount 'received to date Is, I understand, $48,640.' ' v "The state of Oregon has been and la now expending large sums of money each year for ths propagation and pro tection of salmon in the Columbia rlTer and as the department receiving the revenue from these grounds Is making no expenditure- whatever, toward perpet uating the, salmon industry in this stats" It seems that, this- nfbney should be turned over to 'the state for account of the hatchery f una. At least the money' tobo" collected in the future should b turned over and that which has already been collected used by ths government for the protection of fish In this state. At "any rats It should be adjusted so as te give ths state 4hs benefit .of this revenue. . . ,.. A Mullane's Taffies.. . t For sale only 'byJ3ig Bichel & Co:' Ihretutores, J? Third.
