brother of the senator, was Introduced
and made a vtgoroua speech for Gover
nor Wilson. W. T. La Follette failed
to mention any of the Republican prea
identlal candidates, but praised W. J.
Bryan and Woodrow Wilson as the or

Senstor Polndexter called on the pres
ident Thursday and recommended the
appointment of ' Elmer M. Hayden as
United Slates district Judge for western
Washington.
The ' "Get Together" meeting of
northwestern Democrats at Fargo, N. D.,
Thursday, was somewhat of a disap
pointment. William J. Bryan waa un
able to com; Governor Norrle of Mon
tana waa absent; Judge M. J. Wade waa
ill at his borne In Iowa, and Governor
Judson Harmon had returned to his
home In Ohio.

Dallas, Or., Jan. 19.-i Frank ' Fawk
and Edwin Jacooson of Dallas, have
become owners of a 600 acre, tract of
hop, fruit and dairy land In the vicinity
of Salt Creek, Jacobson and Fawk
have each been the owners of a large
tractt of land In the neighborhood and
the -reat was purchased r from Peter
Sohults. The purchase price is not
made publlo, but it la understood to be

of Dallas has entered a petition to the
city council of. Dallas for the appoint
ment of a city market inspector. A
request was also given on behalf of
the club for'the passage of an ordinance
prohibiting expectorating on the side
walks and In public places or Dallas,

have been prepared for the 4 wharf,
bunkers, bunk houses and other. build

the big central rock crushing plant

present time Is to have the plant li
operation by April or as soon as the
weather conditions will permit The
court has ' purchased a new crusher
which haa a capacity of about 160 yards
a day. Convicts from the stats peni

One of the main improvements to be
undertaken thla summer Is the macada
mlsing of tha road between Astoria and
Seaside and to haul the rock tor this
Improvement the court has purchased
a tractor and one trailer on which six
yards of rock can be hauled at a load.
