Rerpesentattve Berger of Wisconsin

Henatof Chamberlain la preparing and
will introduce a bill for the relief of
homesteaders, providing that any home
steader, after six months' continuous
residence on his land, may be entitled
to leave of atsence for six months of
each year; that Is to say, homesteaders
will be required to reside upon their
land only half of each year until final
proof is made.
The Hay bill, providing for reorgan
ization ot the army, was attacked in a
statement sent to the house by Major
General Wood, chief of staff. General
Wood declared the measure contained
changes that would impair army effi
ciency and demoralize the service with
out resulting in real economies.
Representative Warburton has Intro
duced a bill appropriating 120.000 to
establish a weather bureau station on
Mount Rainier, Wash.

velt. Friends of Rooisevelt claim that
the colonel will, under no conditions,
stand in the way of the president's
boom. The statement is brought out
by a report that Taft had offered to
step out of Roosevelt's way, providing

that he has not as yet decided on a
candidate, but of all the condldates at
present In the field, Woodrow Wilson
seems the most progressive. He says
he is bpposed to any third party movement.

In the Burke, Idaho, district, and John
Hanson, camp cook, were caught In a
bunkhouse which wad carried off its
foundation by a snowsllde and buried
many feet deep. The cook dug himself
out, but Orvllle's body was found with
the head crushed.

In France show that the population now
numbers 89,601,609, as compared with
84, 2B2, 245 In 1906. Paris now has 2,
888,110 inhabitants. In the past 40
years the population of France has In
creased only 3,600,000.

The committee in charge of arrange

An avalanche near Java, Montana,
