"RALLY DAY" MEETING
AROUSES INTEREST!
The results of the "Rally Day' talks
on the Men and Religion movement
which were given In about 88 of the
Portland churches yesterday proved
very gratifying. Many requests were
received today Asking for a reptitlon
of these talks. Many expressions were
made after the meetings that this move,
ment marked the awakening In religious
work that was destined to go ahead. .
These meetlnga mark the beginning
of a campaign that will sweep the lar
ger cities of the United States and It
Is hoped will result In bringing at least
S, 000, 000 men and boys Into the churches
and mak live,' aotive members of the
new and the old members. In 79 dif
ferent cities of the United .States ex
perts In the different branches of re
ligious work covered by the movement
will speak during eight-day campaigns.
One of these parties will be In Port
land during the last few days In Feb
ruary and the first few In March.
Word has . Just been received that
the addition of Charles Stelzle has been
made to the party that is to be In Port
land. He will speak on social service,

will not acur Dr. Lyman a removal to
California without further atruggla,
and United Steles Attorney McCourt Is
preparing to "cinch" the doctor on two
Informations. One will charg htm with
conspiracy to escape from an officer
and th other with using tha malls to
defraud. In the doctor's famous Panama
land deal.
In the custody of United PtAtes Mar
shal Scott and a guard. Dr.. Lyman
reached Portland yesterday morning. He
was taken to the county jail And Is now
caged In what - Is known as tha "bull
pen," where the fastidious and distin
guished appearing prisoner Is th object
of constant Attention on the part of tha
county prleonera who share his quar
ters. He. held a lengthy consultation
with Attorney Lionel R, Webster, whom
he has retained to fight the granting of
an order for his removal to California.
Following the Interview Attorney Web
ster announced that he had Instructed
his client not to talk about his case, al
though he said he was willing to have
him give his views on matters of gen
eral interest otherwise.

When the doctor was searched by the
officers before being placed . in th
county Jail they found $245 in currency-
hidden In the sole of one or his socks.
They also relieved him of a complete
silver manlcur set much to his dis
gust.'' Ha said 'he wanted to use tha

wait in but Jailer Phillips feared
he might use the file and knif to at

Lyman told the men who were bring
ing him from Klamath Falls to Portland
that he had once been on close terms
with Larry Sullivan, the one time sailor
boarding house operator of Portland.

man, "when he was running his truiit

ing me through a plate glass window. I
have no 'use for that kind of a man."
