tation came as 'he result of a statement
by Councilman Magulra at lha meet
ing of tha Portland Genera! Ministerial
association yeaterday morning, that the
mlntaters had It within their power to
have all of tha licenses of saloona. In
connection with which houaea of 111
fame are run revoked.
Mr. Magulra stated thst II out of 111
saloon licenses In this city ara con
trolled by ona man through power of
attorney. He declared that should all
of the ministers demand from their pul.
pits tha revocation of license of sa
loons connected with disorderly houses,
threatening to demand a recall of the
councllmen If this were not accom
plished, tha licenses would be revoked
at once.
Councilman Msgulra attempted at one
of the recent meetings of the liquor li
cense committee to bava these lloenses
revoked. Tha attempt resulted In fail
ure whrn It was put to a vote In the
council, as only five members were In
favor of tha revocations.
