die from a horrible wound in the head.
Meinecke and Marquis had had trouble I
previously and about 1:30 o'clock this
mornlnR the latter sent in a can rrom
fiixtii and Main streets for a cab. Mar-
qul answered the, call and soon a ahotl
wns heard. Marqui managed to wain
three block to the State hotel, where
he fell exhausted into a chair, murmur
ing, "Meinecke shot me."
Munecko came to the police station to
give himself up but could not be in
duced to part with his gun. After I
frightening a few bystander, he dlsap-l
peared but was located and brought to I
the station house by Patrolman George
Wilcox, who could not, however, get
his gun away irom mm. a mey
entered the door of the police station,
Meinecke by a quick movement placed
the gun to his head and blew out hi
brains.
The two men had become enemies and
last night engaged in a fist fight and it
Is thought the tragedy was a conse
quence.
Marquis' left eye 1 gone and a part
of his brain is exposed. Meinecke was
60 year or more of age and several
