county officers to run down a man' who
was seen In that locality In the woods
and who waa suspected of being one of
tha robbers. The sheriff aays ha and

that they were men who were known to

and Allegany haa been searched over

man, passing along West Park atreet
laat night, heard a man groaning. In
vestigating, they found a colored man
and two colored women beating a white
man in an alley juat south of tbe Ma
aonlo temple, on Yamhill atreet.
They bravely reacued the man from
the robbers, but refrained from taking
the aasallants into cuatody, spending all
their energlea toward restoring the vic
tim to consciousness. His throat had
been cut and he waa badly Injured other
wise. A bottle of peroxide was secured
with which to clean the wounda, and
when the man, believed to be a aallor,
recovered enough to walk he was al
lowed to go.
The two specials, without securing his
name, told Patrolman Thatcher about
the affair, who reported to the police
station.

Emll and Joseph Ehnert, tha two men
who robbed W. W. Kent's store In
Drain, were aentenoed to the state pen
itentlary for Indeterminate terms of
from two to five yeara. The men
robbed the atora on laat Friday night,

by Peter Gulllckson. charging Albert
F. Bonnell with larceny in a dwelling.
Bonnell is the man who waa shot by
Charea Hansen at FernhlU, near thla
city, a few daya ago,, and Is still in
the hospital here Ha stole a coat and
rifle from Qulllckadn's house He will
be arraigned aa soon as he Is able to
leave the hospital. Teaterday afternoon
a' deputy sheriff from Kalama, Wash.,
Identified a la'unch which had been left
by Bonnell at Burnslde Potnt aa one
which had been stolen from Kelso,
Wash., a short time ago.

storm here yeaterday killed lots of
chlckena, whipped down the oropa and
knocked the fruit. The hall stones
were so large that they knocked out
wlndowa. People out In the storm were
hit hard enough to to raise large lumps

five men were taken from this place to
Mosler yesteray afternoon In an auto
truck to assist In fighting a forest fire
there. The blase turned out to be a
small one and the men returned in the
evening. A small fire has been burning
on Seven Mile hill, five miles from here,
but has done little damage
