Hannah Smith, who suddenly and mys
teriously disappeared from her Portland
home three 'weeks ago. The message
states that she will write later. When
the woman was last seen in this City
he had J65D. - Bhe lived In a small room
at the rea&M art old church at 61 Thir
teenth street. .Detectives Sloan and En
dlcott have been unable to find any
trace of her since the disappearance.
She asked to have her goods sent to her.
Efforts are now being made to, locate

cision handed down today by Federal
Judge- R. B: Bean, a demurrer filed by
counsel for H. L. Fittock to a cross bill
of complaint filed , by J. White Evans
and W. D. Wood was overruled. The

church,. First and Glbbs streets, on

Flazier, former propri.'ior of the Elk
horn saloon, was arrested early Sunday
morning for assaulting a woman at Mor
rison and West Park streets. Patrol
man Potter made the arrest. Pedes
trians on, their way home were startled
ta hear a woman scream, and following
up the alarm saw her being dragged
down the street.1 When ' Blazier saw
men in pursuit he attempted to escape,
but was held by the patrohnan until the
matter could be Investigated. The wo
man was not arrested. Blazier offered
no explanation for his actions. He was
seen to strike her sereral times. Bail
of $50 was given, and he was allowed
to go Jiome. The case will be heard
Tuesday in the municipal court.

men were arrested yesterday evening for
Deintr disorderly at Council Crest and

$10 and given a lecture, by Judge Ben
nett. The men gave the names of John
Horn, Val Devons, James ifimith, Her
bert Groves, Jost M&rkston, Erjo Eric
son, George Green and Charles Loder.

Claims of Viewers. An ordinance re
quiring viewers to file claims for their
salaries at the same time they report
to tse city auditor and directing that
hereafter, all such claims and ; reports
be sent to the street committee of the

and will 'be submitted at the council
meeting next Wednesday. -

Heart Disease Causes Death. -Man-
llus Spencer, for 86 yeaka a resident
of Portland, died of heart failure this
morning, aged 46 years. He had been
