from his wife's eyes while she was on

Kouts, who , represents Mrs. Mears.
Fouls strode around the little courtroom
for several minutes to control his feel
ings, after exclaiming he had once
licked" a brother of Mears and would
meet Mears at any time. He apologized
to the court for this remark, and Judge
Gatens and Depjuty district Attorney
' Vree.land, who represents . the state,
"'calmed tha attorney's wrath. '
Mrs, Mears identified large bunches
of hair which she said ner husband had
fulled from her head. She also identi
fied the remnants of three shirtwaists
which she said had been torn by Mears
while she was wearing , them. One of
these' was drenched around the- necK
with blood..' Another exhibit was a gold
filled watch which had been" stamped
upon. She said Mears did It, and ha

the Mears family .once lived, testified to
having seen Mears knock down-his chil-

serving Hailey's comet, has been opened

spect the structure. The building was
erected by popular subscription. It is

ances suitable -for observing the stars.

helped defray the cost of construction
are allowed admittance to the building

but owing to the presence of a heavy
cloud bank on the eastern horizon the
comet was not seen. Another attempt
