Th nealected district comprise more
than eight square mile and ha several
thousand resident. From Twenty-sixth
street to Lents and. from , Division
street - aouth to th city limit , no
water main haa vr been laid al
though th people of th district al
leg that during tha year they have
been helping to pay for 41ne laid out
on the peninsula to th west, aide and
other distant parts of th city. They
say that ft short main with properly
branched laterals could aupply th
whol dry district, and that they are
willing to nay th coat - Two amall
laterala now penetrate th district short
distance frbm th Richmond and War-
erly trunks, but . these reach only ft
few families.. It la said. All th popu
lar organisation of th Seventh ward
have taken up th matter of obtaining
olty water and are making It th leader
of ft local campaign.
Th. Seventh ward league, mad up
of delegate or committee from prl
mary clubs, has outlined two plan for
supplying tha district ." and Sellwood.
These plana Include th laying of on
large main from th lower Mount Tabor
reservoir for th Sellwood district and
a smaller on to supply Woodstock and
Intermediate territory. This plan does
not include Mount Scott .
Th Mains Follow Soad.
Both main - would follow th Sec
tion Lin road, the Sellwood Un turn
ing south on East Twenty-sixth street
and the Woodstock Una following East
xmrty-mnin street soutn to MOigate ana
east to tha city limits. These propo
sitions have' been given 'the united sup
port of all clubs composing th Seventh
Ward league and have already been
aubmltted .to th water board.
To meet th Mount Scott neceaslty,
for which. It Is said, tha proposed
Woodstock 10 Inch main will" b in
adequate, the Ivahhoe Push club haa
outlined another plan. This I the moat
comprehensive Of all and incl-trtles the
most territory. A large main from the
upper Mount Tabor reservoir is sug
gested. It would run south on Mil
waukl road to Powell street where
it would branch, one Una . going east
and providing for th Mount Scott die-,
trict and extending to Forty-f lrat atreet
From this latter point th main could
be laid directly aouth to Ivanho and
Woodstock, f .
Ivanhoe push club ; members repre
sent that this latter plan would pro
vide water enough for all purposes
during many years to com, and would
add more largely than any other thing
to th development of the district It
Would furnish a permanent water sup
ply. Th district is only a short dis
tance from th Mount Tabor reser
voir.
