F. A. Haines, formerly In the service
of the Chicago Northwestern, and who
located and built the line from Casper
to Lander. Wyo., the line from Rapid
City to Pierce In South Dakota, and also
the system of narrow gauges in the
Black Hills, is the company's chief en
gineer, and he has' found a pass and
obtained. less than a 1 per cent grade.
Mr. Clarke is very posltivs In assert
ing that his Is a steam road and that
4t will be pushed eastward to a connec
tion with Lander, Wyo., as rapidly as
the survey can be completed and , the
right of way obtained. .T .
