Talk of a lower hoe market at this
time seems- to have drifted away for
i vne moment (stockdale buyers are
eagerly offering as high as 28 for swine,
if good enough. There was only a small
run of hogs In the yards during the
day; a total of 100 head being received.
This compares with 877 yesterday, 888
Tuesday, 231 Monday, 88 Saturday and
none last Friday.
There was a small sprinkling of sheep
in the yarda during the day. Condition
of the sheep and lamb trade continues
very good at Stockdale and prices re
main as high a formerly quoted.

Davidson Fruit company, of this city,
when they bought the entire Hood River
crop and paid 3.Z7ft per. box for the
fancy Spltxenbergs. The price paid
this ear by th New York firm was
$3.85 for the fancy Spltxenbergs. Tbe
Yellow Newtown brought $2.40 per box,
which Ms far In excess -of -any- price
ever paid for Newtowns .In the world
In the raw market. Fancy Baldwin
brought $1.90 and Ortleys $2.25. The
second grade apples also brought a hia-h
figure. Tho prices paid for this grade
were nearly as high as that paid for
fancy stock arown In other districts.
The prices published for the Wenatchee
stock are about $1 per box below the
Hood River price. Apples st the rate
of three to Tour cars are going out rroni

four months ago the' fruitgrowers of
the Lewis river valley organised tha
Lewis River Valley Fruit Growers' as
sociation. On October 16, the mem
bers and general public brought ex
hibits of . the different products of the
valley. There wer 81 varieties of
apples, numberless . varieties of pear.
peaches, plums, grapes, late cherries,
strawberries, raspberries, quinces, crab
apples, and "nearly ' all varieties of
canned fruit In addition ther wa a
magnificent display of cabbages. ' on
ions, corn af . several' varieties, cow
kale, cucumbers, artichokes, string
beans, squash, pumpkins and other ,
products.
Th fruit growers have decided to
keep the exhibits on display until Sat
urday, October 80, at which time th
Pomona Grange will meet here. It 1
believed that next year a street fair
will be held.
