v 'Seglan' steamers -taking- the place of
the German ahtps handling the trade of
the Portland Asiatic Steamship com
pany between here and oriental ports,
loaded 1,000,000 feet of lumber at St.
Johns mills. 00,000 feet, at the Port
land Lumber company's mills and has
about finished taking on 1,000.000 feet
at the Eastern & Western mills. When
she has. finished there she will be
ready for her voyage to the Philip

, The German - bark Schwartzenbek,
which has ben loading lumber at the
Inman-Poulsen mlUs, had to cease tak
ing on her cargo yesterday In order to
make room for the Arabia, which moved
up to the dock during; the afternoon, but
as soon as the Arabia hastaken on her
earsro of 8.600.000 ft nf lumber, which
Is Being dispatched to Hankow. China,
by Balfour, Guthrie A Co., the Schwarta
tnbek. will flnlah her loading.
After the Arabia left that Alaska
dock, the Belfa, which will take the
fiace of the former vessel on the run
o. Aslatlo ports, moved up from the
Ainsworth dock to -discharge her cargo.

nection with the Twin Cities at The
Dalles, the beer waa landed In. Kenne

.refused to-accept It, aa it had arrived
'too soon, and they could not use It
Dorsey B. Smith manager of the Open
River Company notified the brewery
they could dispose of It, expressing
great surprise that It had reached Ken
newlck so quickly, as they expected that
It would take several days to get there.
SUPPLE SHIPYARD CLOSES
High Water Covers Steam Pipes and
Power Plant Is Closed.
On account of the high Water, the
Supple shipyard wttl close down this af
ternoon, and the power plant will prob
ably not be operated until after . the
river has fallen somewhat.
The pontoons for the dredge Portland,
being completed and the steamer Hun
ter practically finished, Mr. Supple said
this morning that keeping his power
plant . running was a useless expense,
as the water had covered the steamptpeS
and it was almost Impossible to keep a
hot enough fire to furnish steam under
those conditions.
With the exception of the power plant
the shipyard will run along, as usual,
but as there Is no new work .To be
started Immediately. Mr. Supple decided
that It was not worth while to keep up
the Increased expense of having a fire
under the- boilers while the pipes are
under water
The Hunter, which Captain Frederick

passenger boat, will probably be ready
to leave for the sound by the latter

The northern pbrtion of the western
trough of - low pressure has developed
Into a disturbance of moderate strength
which is central this morning over west
ern North Dakota. The north Pacific
high pressure area continues to move
ttlowlv inland, and the larae high ores-
-ure area yesterday over the lake region
nas moved soutneastwara to me virgin
las. Light showers and thunderstorms
have occurred In eastern Oregon, south
eastern Washington, northern Califor
nia, Nevada Idaho, western Montana,
eastern Colorado, New Mexico and at
scattered places in the gulf states. It
Is warmer over the Snake river drainage
area and the temperatures have risen
slightly over portions of the upper Co
lumbia river drainage area
The indications are for showers to
night in northeastern Washington and
for ahowers tonight or Sunday In Idaho.
Fair weather will nrevail elsewhere in
this district Sunday. It will be cooler
tonight east of the Cascatle mountains
and warmer Sunday In Oregon and
Washington.
