R. B. Miller, general freight agent
of the Harrlman lines in this territory,
returned yesterday from a five weeks'
stay in Chicago, where he was in con
ference with the Harrlman traffic of
ficials there concerning the results
of the Spokane rate case decision and
other traffic matters.
Although he has spent five weeks of
careful study on the Spokane rate case,
Mr. Miller aavs that many of his re
sults are Impossible to forecast and
that it is so big and momentous a
thing 4n the history of railroad rates in
the West that it ia impossible to fore
tell what it may Dring about
"I do not know that the carriers In
tereated have reached any definite con-
elusions with regards to the Spokane
rate case," said Mr. .Miner, ' but bo
far as our lines are concerned we have
petitioned the Interstate Commerce com
mission to so modify its order as it
will not apply via the O. R. & N. and
the Union Pacific companies.
"This order establishes certain class
and commodity rates from St Paul
and Chicago to Spokane and aa we view
it ia directed mainly at the northern
lines. Spokane Is located on the main
lines of the Great Northern and North
ern Pacific railroads. It Is reached on
the O. R- N. via a branch from Pen
dleton. The distance via the Union
Pacific and O. R. A N. company from
St Paul to Spokane ia substantially 25
