AGEXTS APPOINTED ALL ALONG ROUTE Steamer Inland Empire Will Begin Operations March 1 and a Few Weeks Later the Company's Two Boats Will Run as Far as Lewiston Dorsey U. Smith, manager of the Open River Transportation company, re turned from an extended tour of the Inland empire this morning. He came back feeling satisfied that the efforts of his company to give good steamboat service on the upper river are heartily appreciated by the people ail along the line and the boats nave been promised all the traffic they can handle. Manager Smith says the merchants of Kennewick and Pasco and all other stations up the river are very enthusi astic over the fact that the steamer Inland Kmpire will begin regular service he t ween Celtlo and Kennewick and Pasco and that the second steamer, known as the Twin Cities, will go on to alternate with her a few days there after. The Twin Cities is now prac tically ready for launching at Celilo. "On mv trip through the inland m- Fire I found conditions very favorable or a heavy tonnage this year." said Mr. Smith. "The steamer Inland Km pire will go into commission on regular service March 1. and the Twin Cities will aoon follow. She is practically ready. The route of both these steam ers will be extended to Lewiston just as aoon aa water conditions in the Snake river o permit. The people uo there have given us assurance of heavy "patronage, as they realize that a great 1 deal of good comes from the possibility to have water transportation. "I have appointed agents for the com nnnv nil ulnne the route and stations I carrying coal supplies have been estab lished so that when we begin the service It will be supplied in a business like way." HEAVY LOT OF CABLE. Steamer Riverside Brings Six Rolls Weighing 12 TonssEach. The cable is to be used mostly for logging purposes. Speaking of the voyage, Captain Ram selius said that heavy seas were en countered all the way from San Fran cisco, and the wave ran so high off the mouth of the river Monday night that it waa not deemed advisable to come in until morning. The Riverside : is under charter to the American-Hawaiian Steamship company for a year to ply between Portland and San Fran cisco in connection with the Pacific-Atlantic service.
