AT THE THEATRES
The campaign for endowment fund pf
Albany college, which is proceeding In
this city under the personal superin
tendence Of President Crooks of that In
stitution, is rapidly reaching the figure
which has been set. Already over three
fourths of the required sum Is sub
scribed, and It is now thought that no
difficulty will bs encountered In resell
ing the $10,000 mark which has been
set. ' . . .
By the addition of other jpledges which
become operative If the 810,000 mark Is
attained, the sum of $26,000 will become
available, and the understanding is "that
if this amount Is secured in Oregon it
will be duplicated In the east, making
the total endowment fund of $50,000.
which will place Albany college upon a
substantial and permanent footing,
greatly aiding its usefulness. President
Crooks will remain In the city until
January 27. and the campaign will be
continued until that date, as the in
clemency of the weather has greatly
hindered the committee In getting
about, and a number of business men are
still to be reached.

about tuning
Few people realize the importance of having their
pianos tuned and examined regularly by experts.
The tone, action and durability o! a piano are im
periled by not having it regularly tuned and looked after.
A piano may sound in fairly good tune and yet per
haps be a fourth to a half below or above the pitch or
tension it is built to sustain.
In such cases, the piano cannot produce the quality
or amount- of tone intended.
Changes in temperature keenly affect the delicate
mechanism and moths and mice frequently work consid
erable injury to a piano.
Let us explain to you how our Yearly Tuning Con
tract insures your piano always being in tune and best
of all, will prevent your piano from depreciating in value.
We make a feature of our tuning and repairing de
partments. No concern has a more skilled and experi
enced corps of piano tuners and repairers, competent to
perform the most delicate and exacting work.
All work done under our direction is guaranteed.
