Meyer Well, arrested several days
ago by the federal authorities at the
request of the government agents at
Albuquerque, New Mexico, on a charge
of using the malls to defraud, has been
released from custody .ion : a bond of
$2000. Weil .will have a preliminary
hearing before United States Commis
sioner Marsh January IS. He will prob
ably engage legal counsel and fight the
charge. Well asserts that a mistake
has been made. .
According to the complaint-' filed
gainst Weil by United States District
Attorney McCourt Wall's schema was -
a most ingenious one. He would or-
der goods of different kinds from Chi.
cago wholesale houses for houses of
gooa standing, wnen the order was
received at Albuquerque, or . whatever
town he was working in, the govern
ment alleges, the goods would be re
fused by the houses to which they had
been shipped. Weil would know when
the shipments he had ordered for other
persons were due and m time ne would
call at the freiehthouse. nav . the
charges, take the goods and dispose of
them on his own acoount. In this
way it is claimed he got possession of
thousands of dollars worth of mer
chandise, the only cost to him being
ine ircigni caarges.
The postal authorities say that Well
used the mails to carry out his scheme
and It is on this charge that be is be
ing . prosecuted. Well, it seems, left
Albuquerque about 10 months ago. He

the bath house built by the city, free
to ail. is said to be one of the best In
