(Special Dlipttch to The, Journal.) '
Goldendale, Wash., Pea., 21. At

schoolhouse which has been agitating
the citizens of Goldendale from the
most prominent men down to the school
children. The agitation started last
-week after the destruction of fire by
a small aweuing just, svroii im intm
from the schoolhouse. When the alarm
was turned in it was thought to be
the schoolhouse and everybody turned
out to give aid to the children. - . '
Confusion resulted in emptying the
building and the Incident caused a pe
tition to be circulated, asking the di
rectors to take Immediate action and
remodel the building. Following this
a complaint was filed In the superior
court supported by affidavits of prom
inent citizens nd school teachers, re
garding the heating apparatus, arrange
ment of doors and the method of fire
escapes alleging the use of the upper
story of the building was dangerous
to the health and safety of the chil
dren and asking for an order restrain
ing the use of the upper story-till the
alleged defects were remedied. , ,
. " Directors Are Aroused.
The -directors of the school district
were made defendants, and summoned
to appear before Judge MsCredie at
Vancouver today and show cause why
the order should not be granted. The
directors took the matter up and ap
pealed to. their friends, claiming that
they had been treated unfairly by not
being given a chance to remedy any
defeota without taking the matter Into
the courts. A mass meeting was called
and at this meeting a committee of
five citiiens H. W. Fellows, manager
and owner of the electric, light plant:
I). W, Pierce, contractor and builder,
A. M. McLeod, eounty auditor; J.. W.

Tne malady is said by the school
teachers to have broken out 4
among all of the pupils at the

that it was useless to adopt the 4
usual precaution of keeping 4
those who bad it at home. 4
It is said, that the coughing 4
takes place In solos, duets, quar- 4

.calls for the suspension of reel- 4
