Display of Garters at Assembly ' ;
: : Ball Shocks Prudish ; Society
Regarding the assembly hall.' last
week, where was gathered all the ex
clusive society and the ultra-ults, a good
deal of talk is ' going the rounds about
what was to see there. , The new sub
subject of conversation vies with the
ever popular bridge subject; it has invaded-
tne . luncheon' table, and the tea
room; it has even entered the sanctum
sanctorum of the cafes where men spen 3
their leisure hours. The men speak of
it openly and make bad- Jokes fit to ap
pear on the vaudeville stage; the women
speak. of it in whisper and; with ex
pressions of horror.
And It is all to do with the carrying
of. the train in dancing. Now, you
must know that the beauty of the
firesent long, slim lines In dress lies
n allowing the material to fall in soft
folds about the- figure of its own ac
cord.. Stiff foundations interfere with
such self -folds, and the solution is to
discard not only- the starched accessor
ies of our grandmother's days, but .even
the softer silken ones of later days.
But some of the conservatives hold
that it is not necessary to prove by a
lesson In sight reading that the folds
are automatic and that the interference
has been removed.' Others of the ex
tremely , conservative ' hold tha't ' lt' is
not necessary . even to .let everyone
know that your garters match your

But some of .this nnkntlon.iiei an

They probably --. would object t even , If
their voung women appeared In classic

which would do away -with the puzzling
question of garters. They are (he kind

Now, of course, there mr' aome rea

was suggestive ohi horrors, yes! But
there is nothing vulgar in this no sug

no matter what
kind ol a suit
you buy, y oii get
a pair of trousers
tree
f During the festive season, one
often feels the need of a black
suit. In fact, a black suit is a
requisite of every man's ward
robe. It is appropriate for al
most any occasion. Frequently
a black suit becomes useless be
cause the trousers are a bit shiny,
frayed or worn. You see, then,
why an extra pair of trousers
comes in handy. You will always
look neat. It is also dress suit
time, and no better line of even
ing clothes can be made than
ours. Even here an extra pair of
trousers is included. Then, again,
perhaps you have just concluded
that a new business suit is due.
No place like the Columbia shop
for that. Here, again, comes in
the free trouser proposition. And
all are made in true Columbia
fashion and style.
