County Clerk Says He Has
no Room for Outsiders
in His Office.
What will the abstractor do? What
is to become of the buay be typewriters
who chew (um and gossip across the
tables with each other and add gaiety
to the courthouse humdrum?
These are the questions suggested by
n order of the county commissioners
Who have cruelly declared that the space
occupied bv the abstract force in Coun
- ty Cleric Field's off io must vacate not
later than January 1- The reason for
this is that the county clerk needs room
for his deputies to extend the tax roll.
Heretofore he baa used the room across
the aislr from the sheriffs office, but
that has been turned Into a grand jury
room, and nothing seems available with
out boosting out the 40 odd members
of the abstract squad.
Abstracts must be made of course,
and th abstract people declare that the
county clerk will be bothered more by
tnem la calling lor iwu u i
and copying by hand than if the present
system is maintained, where the girls
that do the copying have typewriters
and copy directly from the original rec
ords, which . cannot be permitted to

9rm nf th abstract men are dis
posed to dispute the order, but have not

Anuht th rleht of the county com ml s
sinners "to drive them, out of their quar
ters, under a declsioa of the supreme
court which held that the county clerk
should provide the publlo a convenient
place for necessary examination of the
records of his office. .
Countv Clerk Fields merely says that
lie must have room somewhere for ex
tending the tax rolls. He admits that
irrcater confusiotf and bother probably
wouloT- result from expelling the ab
stractors than is causea by tneir pres
ence. On both aides It Is a problem,
