ENTIRE SYSTEM
Agree That Sailor Boarding
Houses in Portland
JIust Be Abolished.
That the sailor 'boarding house sys
tem as conducted under the present
heavy expense to shipping must be dis
continued was the decision reached yes
terday afternoon at a conference held
here by the various foreign consular
representatives.
The conference was held in the Brit
ish consulate for the purpose of further
discussing the subject which formed
the topic at a special meeting' of tht
board of trustees and the harbor and
river committee of the chamber of com
merce Tuesday afternoon when the
various parties concerned were given
opportunity to speak.
The consular representatives stated
their views and held emnhatlcallv for
a. iiinicnui reduction in tne ree cnarged
for furnishing sailors while John Grant,
who conducts the licensed sailor board
ing nouse, argued In favor of his In
leresis. several other parties were
caiiea upon to give testimony for which
ever side they favored. Tne conclusion
reaohed by the trustees was that the
present legal fee is too high and it was
ueciuea to save a new uui drawn up
ror tne legislature amending the act
of 1903 governing the sailor boarding;
To more emphatically make this po
sition clear the foreign consuls got to
gether yesterday afternoon and after
taxing- into consideration all the phases
of the question they became firmer than
ever in the conclusion that under no
circumstances should the legal fee for
lurrusiung seamen exceed ill).
They held that there is no need for
a sailor boarding house. The consuls
believe that the sailor Is able to take
care of himself when In port and if
he wants to go to a boarding house he
does not need a law to state to whlrh
one house he should go to gain admis
sion. A state shipping commissioner.
they declare, would solve the problem.

CDRONIC DISEASES
HOW CTJBED BT
ELECTRICITY
The action of the modern high
potential, high frequency currents
Is entirely different from that of
ordinary electricity. Glass does
not Insulate this form of elec
tricity as it passes through the
glass electrodes used in treating;
skin diseases, ulcers and enlarged
glands. As the nerve currents
of the body are essentially elec
tric In character, It follows that
this powerful form of electricity
io the best possible treatment for
all nervous diseases, and experi
ence shows that it cures nervous
debility, sciatica, nervous head
aches, neuasthenla. In rheuma
tism it Is equally, effective, and
aided by the radiant heat of the
high power electric light, it re
moves inflammation from the
Joints, or from any part of the
body. This power over inflamma
tion makes the treatment curative
In a great many conditions which
are not Lnfluftnced by medicine or
ordinary methods of treatment.
Such troubles as indigestion,
chronlo constipation and piles
yield readily to it, and asthma,
chronic bronchitis, consumption
(first and second stages), catarrh
of the stomach, appendicitis and
kidney diseases are cured.
N. B. This treatment is pecu
liarly effective in diseases of the
PBOBTATE, removing congestion
and reducing enlargement of the
gland.
Consultation free.
