A slight Increase In supplies has been

While a lance per cent of the sales
of strictly fresh local eggs w"e made
a hlarh as 42Vic yesterday, the -market
Is easier today? with the result that r.o
one who wants to pay 40c Is turned
away. The Increase in supplies, while
not liberal. Is growing, and for that
reason the trade wants to move the
. stock with all possible dispatch.
Several more cars of eastern egg
have arrived hare since last Saturday,
.md the market Is staggering under the
input. While prices In general have
not been changed, some Of the dealers
' are shading their quotations In order to
' clean up before the price on local eggs
C" oes so low that there will be no mar

Sasy Tons in Chickens.
No change in chicken prices is noted
for the day,' but the market Is some
what easier. Monday is always a poor
dav for chickens, and for that reason
arrivals are generally nominal, but they
were good yesterday and today. While
naon knows definitely what the week s
supplies wiil amount to It is generally
believed that the movement will be ex.
Mremely heavy. -
Onlv a fewcoops of txirkeys are com

Boost Cranberry Frloei.
Some Front street handlers have put
their cranberry prices up to til a
barrel, or 15c pound. Others are charg

are quite willing to unload at these fig

Hams Are Half Cent Down.
The new list of the Union Meat com
: pany announces a general decline of c
a pound In regular hams. There is a
. drop of lo in short clear backs weighing
from 16 to- 20 pounds, which
puts the price at 12c for dry salt
and 18c for smoked, the same figures as
aaked for the lighter grade. Several
changes in bacon prices are likewise an
nounce'd. but the general range of that
line is unchanged at 11 to 21 Ho a pound.
.'. Dressed meats are still very firm and
high, with supplies scarce.
. Brief Motes of Front Street Trade.
The bulk of the bananas which ar
rived vesterdayi were rather ripe, and
for quite a movement the trade cut the
price as low as 4c a pound. Hawkers
took most of the supplies.
Potato market is quiet as tar as snip
ping demand is concerned. There is
still a demand for Early Rose for seed
from the south, and some shipments are
going forward. However, supplies of
I mis x-aneiy are scarce, a cent is paiu
- - and orierea. -
A" number of transactions in medium
V . hops are again . reported around 65V4e
a pound. It is stated that Klaber, Wolf
Netter company is taking on large
. loads of this" quality In order to even
up Its high priced purchases. Supplies
In the hands of growers are rather
light.
Pineapple supplies are Increasing, but
e-enerallv rood aualttv is noted, and for
that reason demand Is liberal at former
prices.
j Oranae market Is firmer for large

To the shipper and producer the live
stock situation could scarcely be better
than at this time. The forecast made
of the market by The Journal re
cently haa been fulfilled in every par
ticular and today higher prices are in
effect in the varlous lines.
Great strength continues to be noted
in the cattle situation and for one load
of 2J steers weghing 28.606 pounds,
$4.60 was paid during the paat 24 hours.
This Is 25c above anything heretofore
oaid in the yards the present season.
although there has been considerable
talk to the effect that $4.60 would be
nhtalnable for something showing select
quality. The market for all grades of
cattle is allowing improvement uin in
all lines jirices are. being held stiff.
Bulls are selling up to iz.za. Arrivals
are very small and do not more than
half fill the demand now shown in the
yards.
Hogs Bell 6e ighe.
One bunch of corn fed hogs from Med
ford tipped the top of the market today
and sold at f l.tir, or 6o higher than
the extreme top for recent trading. Re
ceipts of hogs for the day amounted to
hut 200 head, and aa there has been a
resumption of demand from northern
packers many more head could be used
and still no.t affect the great strength
now shown.
While there have recently been several
drops in hog values in the east and mid
dle west, the changes are not aereve
enough to affect prices along the Pa
cific coast.
No sheep arrived for the 24 hours,
hut Drevious arrivals readily broucht
former quotations. The only setback of
note In the sheep market Is noted tn
lambs, and these are generally of poor
quality. '
Today 100 goats and 20 horses were
among the arrivals in the yards.
A year ago today cattle and hogs were
firm at unchanged prices.

Great strength is again shown In the
coarse grain list here as a result'of the
Improvement in California demand and
prices. That the supplies of both oats
and barley in the south are getting
close to the exhaust point Is amply
shown by the recent liberal purchased
In this market for as early delivery as
possible.
On the Portland board of trade today
the entire coarse grain list was quoted
higher, although only one sale was re
ported. The bidding for oats has been
quite pronounced In the cash market fcr
several days but now the futures are be
ginning to show signs of returning: ac
tivity. During today's session 67c was
bid for December and $1.60 for January
delivery, both of these prices being an
advance of 2c a cental over previous
figures. Holders are likewise asking
the Same advance. During the day 100
tons of January-February oats were sold
on the board at $32 a ton, .
Barley market felt the Improvement
In California prices today and on th
Portland board of trade futures are o
day being quoted at an advance of 2c
a cental for December and Januarv, botB
bid and ask figures being up a like sum.
There is nothing, of Interest In the
flour market
Mlllfeeds are showing a slightly eas
ier tone with some offering by outside
mills here at a fractional decline, but
local Institutions are firm In their views
under press of scant holdings and a
very good demand and are therefore
holding out for former top figures.

San Francisco, Dec, 15.4-In the effort
to place a . charge of murder against
John Walter Wilson, who Is r held by
the police under suspicion of having
caused the death of Harry Boas by send
ing him strychnine through the mail,
the police had subpoenaed 50 witnesses
to testify before Coroner T. B. W. Ice
land when the Inquest began at 10:30
this morning.
' Mrs. Katherine Boas, mother of the
dead man,- waa - the first witness. She
had hardly begun the recital of her son's
sudden death when ' she waa , overcome
and the bearing was delayed for some
time until she was sufficiently self
possessed to resume.
. With Mrs. Boas were her sons, Bmile,
John' and -Martin, and their sister. Alma.
Wilson, looking haggard and weak,
was brought-to the Inquest room by de
tectives. The police have as yet placed
no charge against him, relying upon the
coroner's verdict' for sufficient basis
for a charge.
Theodore Kytka. a handwriting expert,
appeared with charts of handwriting
shown In the letter that contained th
poison that killed Boas and samples of
handwriting from letters known to have
been written by Wilson. This expert
had already announced that the hand
writing in all papers was that of the
same person. -
Martin C. Boas, brother of the victim,
was the second witness. .He told of his
suspicions that Wilson was responsible,
for his brother's death and detailed con
versations in which Wilson told of the
business and -in one of which he alleged
Wilson- claimed' to , have been admitted
to partnership.' Boas then identified n
number of specimens Of Wilson's hand-
writing.-
