At ths T. M. C.' A. last night a very
rleasant social function was given by
he local Christian Endeavor union. The
first feature of the entertainment wta
a program aa follows: Quartet, Miss
Hazel Hardy, Miss Monft Lawler, Mlsa
Lottie Hampton, Mlsa F.- Olsan; banjo
selections, toy I. W. - Larlmore; sleight
of hand, Mr. Bell. The most pleasing
number of the program was a cantata,
"The Singing Garden, rendered by the
following gentlemen and ladles of the
First Christian church: Miss Katharine
Llnehan, Miss Myrtle Sale, Miss A. B.
Price, Miss Ellen Flook, Miss Mabel
Burgoyne, James Johnson, Carl Brown,
Mrs. Maud Watklns, 1. Curtis Robinson
and Mrs. Q. B. Baker. Following the
program a very pleasant social hour
was spent in the large gymnasium,
after which refreshments were served.
An entertaining feature was a fortune
teller in her oriental booth.- i
NEW UNDERSTUDY
FOR ROSE STAIIL
Judge. Webster In the county court
yesterday appointed Mrs. Honors M.
Lawler executrix of the will of her late
husband, iBaac Lawler, who left an es
tate of the net value of $25,000, -after
, allowing for a $20,000 mortgage on
property in Couch addition. The entire
estate is given to the widow for her
lifetime, with the proviso that if any of
It is undisposed of at her death it shall
be held in trust by Arthur C. Payton for
the benefit of Kathleen Lawler and
Nona Lawler, daughters! R. Emmet
Lawler and Gerald Lawler, sons; and
, Mary C. Schermerhonn, granddaughter.
The daughters in such case are to re
ceive one fifth part each, the remainder
to be invested, in interest bearing se
curities for the other legatees, who will
share equally. . 1
At the Church of Good Tidings, East
Eighth and Couch streets, next Sunday
evening the pastor. Rev. J. D. Corby,
will present a number of very interest
ing slides of pictures in Japan where
the Unlversalist faith has won many
followers. These pictures have Just
, come from tho east and this is a rare
chance to see a new phase of the. ag
gressive work of the larger faith. On
Monday evening In the same church.
Dr. Jay J. Lewis of Boston. Mass., will
give the story of the only true passion
1 play. Dr. Lewis was at Oberammergau
In 1890 and again in 1900 and was the
personal guest of those participating
and thus was given many facilities for
collecting the choice pictures and rich
materials with - which , he makes this
lecture so -charming and instructive.

Adelaide Harland, who is playing the
part of the chorus girl in the "Land of
Nod" at the Baker theatre this week,
has received an offer from Rose Btahl,
the star of "The Chorus Lady.", which

At an early hour Wednesdfty morning
occurred the death of Mrs. H. O. Hen
derson at her home in Salem. The
cause was heart failure. She had been
in poor health for some time. Until
a few months ago Mrs. Henderson, with
her husband, had been a resident of
Lents, 'at which blace Mr. Henderson
occupied the pulpit of the Evangelical
church. They resided at Lents for the
past four years. Mr. Henderson being
removed last spring . to Salem. The
funeral will be held at Lents tomorrow
afternoon at 1 o'clock.
