Committee Reports Deficit
of $17G No Prosecu
tion Probable.
(Special Dlnpntch to The Journal.)
Vancouver. Wash.. Dec. 8. At the
meeting of tho city council last even
ing tha council committee appointed
to look Into the condition of the book
,of City Clerk Harris, made Us report,
which waa accepted and the committee
discharged.
This report shows that Harris Is
short in his accounts to the extent of
$176. The majority of the shortage is
In tibe city cemetery and city license
moneys. The examination, according to
the report, brought to light u. most
startling" condition of the, city book.
There were numerous omissions and
changes, It was alleged, and. In sev
eral cases thi stubs for license re
ceipts had been torn out. The Mer
chant' Express company has been do
ing busmAss under a license issued for
several months, hut there was no trace
of the UO fee having been' turned in
to the city treasurer by Harris. Sev
eral such cases were reported, tn all
about $45; the cemetery shortage
amounted to about $70.
The council decided to Instruct the
city attorney to call on Harris for the
payment of the shortage and In case hs
does not1 reimburse , the city, the bonds
men are to be called ; on. No mention
of criminal prosecution, was made at
the meeting and It Is presumed this
will be, dropped... following the- belief
of some of the . eounctlmen that the
case Is entirely one of carelessness.
Professor P.- Hough of the council
committee said this morning that It
a,5 irn oxcpcdliiKly hard matter to
determine just what the shortage really
wa s".
"There has been no ordinance written
up since .lulv," said Professor Hough,
"and the books are all In a most, con
fused state, jshoVliitr great careless
ness.' To Old Mexico.

CHRONIC DISEASES
NOW CUBED BY
ELECTRICITY
The actidn of the modern high
potential, high frequency currents
is entirely different from that of
ordinary electricity. Glass does
not insulate this form of elec
trlctty, as it pnsses through the
glass electrodes used in treating
skin diseases, ulcers and enlarged
glands. As the nerve currents
of 'the body are essentially elec
tric in character, it follows, that
this powerful form of electricity
Is the best possible treatment for
all nervous diseases, and experi
ence shows that It cures nervous
debility, sciatica, nervous head
aches, ncuasthehlo. In rheuma
tism it is equally effective, and
aided by the radiant heat Of the
high power electric ilight, it ' re
moves Inflammation from 'the
Joints, or from any part Of the
body. This power over Inflamma
tion makes tho treatment curative
in a great many conditions which
