Portland Union Stockyard. Dec,
There wa a better grade of hogs among
the arrival in the yard during the paat
24 hour and for that reason the market
1 better. Some fancy Willamette val
ley stuff old in the yard as high as
$8.12 H and there wa a good call for
them - at thl figure. Thl compare
with the top price at $8 during th paat
weeks.
There were only a dosen cattle in the
yard during the past 24 hour with
only G 8 head yesterday and none the
day oerore. 'Jin scarcity or looal sup
plies is very pronounced and price are
expected to reach higher ere long. The
yards are full of buyers with no cattle
to sell them.
Sheen jnerket show a better ran to
day but the supplies do not compare
with the demand. Top prices are still
maintained, especially for the better
class of stock.
Today arrival in the yard compare
with this day in recent year a fol

Better Bogs Bring More,
J "The trade is paying and offering a
better price for a better grade of hogs
than ' has been ushown in the yards
lately," says Lee M. Lacey of Hunt ft
Lacey. "Everyone is after cattle and
the yards are showing very scant sup-
?Iles. Shippers should get some of
heir stock into the yards without delay
and take advantage of these prices.
Sheep are firm at unchanged prices."
"There is a very firm demand for cat
tle and sheep," say 8. P. Gould of Ben
son & Could. "Arrivals in both lines
are far under the demand and the tone
of the market Is firmer, I expect cattle
prices to improve right along. Hogs re
main where they were although a Better
call of stuff is now coming forward
and is therefore bringing higher prices."

Any shortage that may be found in

Harris' books a re said to be badly
