championship meet. This preliminary
affair, however, is merely a cock tall
to whet the appetite of the lovers of
bicycling for the annual six days' grind

the Royal Insurance company, was loot
ed of $100,000 worth of Jewelry, furs,
garments and a valuable painting after
the woman's body was found lifeless

Prescott Cooklngham, best known to
his schoolmates as "Cooky," who this
year played both fullback and quarter
back on the Portland Auaaemy team, has
been elected captain of the team for
1909. Cooklngham is a sophomore, and
has still two years st the local school.
Cooklngham will have every advant
age In turning out a team next year, for
radically the entire 1908 eleven will
