new pipe organ was used for the first
time. The church has now been almost
completely remodelled for a new gallery

Burglars entered the pool room of
Harry Patton at Peninsula last night
and stole' money, cigars and pipes to the
aggregate value of 820. The police be-

That A, C. Brown, the proprietor of
a local restaurant has attempted to end
his life is the belief of the police de
partment which has failed to find any
clue ot his whereabouts since he was
reported as missing several days ago.
Brown was over 65 years of age and
had been complaining recently of 111
health. He was last seen on Friday.
Seats for the O'Connell-Helnrlch
wrestling match In Merrill' hall next

anniversary last evening at old Arlon

general program. John A. Wattson gave

large gathering of members and their
friends.
C M. Averllt. occupant of a small
house at 761 Thirty-first street, went
home drunk Saturday night, according
to the report of the police officer on
the beat, and upset a lamp. As a re
sult the house and everything in it ex
cept Averlll, were burned, the fir"
company not reaching the scene in
time to extinguish the blase.
F. M. Blurnauer, who left Portland
about three weeks ago for " Rochester.
Minn., has been successfully operated
upon by the Drs. Mayo. A telegram
from Rochester received here today
says that he is making rapid progress'
toward recovery and will be able to
return to Portland in about' one month.
Under the auspices of the Rose Fes-,
tlval association a mass meeting will
be held next Thursday night in Mult
nomah hall. Shaver street and Missis
sippi avenue to discuss plans for the
festival next year. F. V. Holman will
deliver a lecture on roses and rose cul

The Presbyterian missionaries who
are touring the country in the itnerest
of more work for the Coreans will not
reach here In December as was ex

Empty House Place Chosen
by Unloving Parent to
. Desert Her Child.
A baby, bound up like a mummy with
bands of dirty cloth, sick, cold, soaked
to the skin and half dead, was found
yesterday afternoon at .1 o'clock n the
porch of a vacant house, at 142 Cook
avenue, where It had been deserted by
Its Inhuman mother, Tiea Granlsh.
A neighbor happened to look out or
the window and saw the woman place
a bundle on the porch and then run
away. Investigation disclosed the fact
that the bundle contained the human
mummv. The child, which is Only Six
month old. Is scrawny, anemic, poorly
nourished one of the kind that under
the circumstances under which it was
brought Into the world and In the en
vironment in which it has lived Its short
and miserable Uf' becomes a part of
the dregs of humanity.
The mother who so cruelly abandoned
her offspring lives at 87 Morris street
with a gyp" woman. The child . was
at the -Baby Home for a while, but
waa taken away Sunday, November zj,

longer. The case Is similar to that of

was left on the steps of the Salvation
