. The Children's borne was the scene of
. an attractive gathering yesterday after
noon, on the, occasion of the annual tea.
Mrs. T. L. Eliot, the first vice presl
dent, wag the hostess of the -day and
was assisted in receiving by several of
ficers of the society. At the tea tables
were Mrs. Thomas Kerr. Miss Bailie
Lewis, and Mrs. Ous Simon. The candy
booth where home made candles were
sold was In charge of Mrs, Harry Allen,
Mrs. w. b. sues ana Mrs. junus Pippin,
who were assisted .by Miss Maida Hart,
Miss Ines Barrett. Miss Amy Hettshu.
Miss Ernestine Failing and Mies Low
enberg. . There are about 60 children at
the home and the board of managers is
'planning to install a kindergarten to
care for those who are not old enough
to attend the Holman school, near by,
where the older children are taught.
The annual tea of the Patton home
for the aged was held yesterday after
noon and was largely attended.. The
rooms were decorated in chrysanthe
mums and evergreens in effective style
snd the dining room where Mrs. Robert
Glafke and Mrs. C. Watson served was
made most attractive. The hostess of
the day was Mrs. George Chamberlain
who was assisted by Mrs. P. Q. Toma
slnl,' Mrs. Knuettner and Mrs. J. C.
Hare. A pleasing musical program was
riven under the direction of Mrs. Millie
Perkins. Miss Cornelia Barker gave
some violin selections which were re
ceived with enthusiasm, as were also
the piano numbers and vocal solos by
Miss Beatrice Wilson Miss Flynn and
Mrs. Perkins.

Officers for a mock city government
were elected last night by the Federated
Men's club at a meeting held in the T.
M. C. A auditorium and all the
moral issues which come up in the
city council will be brought up and dis
cussed in the organisation. The follow
ing were the officers chosen: Mayor,
Tirgll U Clark; auditor, J. C. Clark;
treasurer, H. Gantenbeln; city attorney,
O. P. M. Jameson; municipal judge, R.
W. Pattengill: councllmen-at-large, J.
V. Guthrie. J. W. P. Palmer, N. R. Alber,
B. W. Roberts, H. 11. Hughes.
The opening event In the new build
ing of the Toung Women's Chrlstlon As
sociation, corner Seventh and Taylor
streets, will be the Thanksgiving dinner
for young women and their friends
which will be served for a small sum
In the handsome new' dining: rooms,
where about SS0 guests can be seated.
Games and storlea, with musical num
bers will make the day a merry one. It
is hoped especially to reacn young wo
men who are living away from home.
Two more raids on Chinese gambling
dens were made by the police last night.
In the first raid at 87 Second street four
Mongolians were arrested and IZOO.e
as evidence was found lying on the
table. In the second, a few minutes
later at 82 H Second street, five Chinks
were cerught and brought to the station
but no evidence was found against
them. All or tne umnese were reieasea
on ISO ball each.
Richard H. Johnson wrfs found not
guilty of having violated the law in the
I'nlted Stales district court yesterday
afternoon, the charge having been that
of cutting timber on public lands. John
son took the stand In his own behalf
arid swore that ho bad taken up the
land as a homestead and that he had
been waiting for a patent The case
was Heard .Dy a jury. ,

At s meeting last night of the choral
organisation which will sing at the
musical festival next March, these offi
cers were elected for the ensuing year:
President. Frederick W. Goodrich; first
vice president, Mrs. E. 8. Miller; sec
ond vice president. Edward L. Bavly:
secretary. Miss Eva L. Wells, whose ad
dress Is 328 Wheeler street; snd treas
urer. K. 8. Miller, who will also act as
sn executive committee. A subcom
mittee, consisting of E. S. Miller. Ed
ward L,- Hayly and Miss Eva L. Wells,
was appointed to report at the next
meeting- of the society to he held next
Tuesday night, suggestions relative to
a set of bylaws and conatltutlon to be
afterward adopted. Mr. Goodrich has
had experience In the formation of
choral societies, and although he was
noi present at last nignt s meeting his
was the only name propoaed for the
presidency of the society. Mr. Good

names have been suraested hv whirh
the new society may be known: The

satisfactory rehearsal was held trom
several choruses of Sullivan's "Golden
Legend" last night, the other oratorios
to be rehearsed- being Gaul'a "Holv
City" and Rossini's "Stabat Mater."

committee and public utilities commit

met last night. The report of the
executive committee was adopted as pre
sented by Senator Gearln,, chairman of
that committee. The six departmenta
will be those of public affairs, accounts
and finances, fire and health, public
aafety and police, streets and public im
provements, "parks and public property
and water supply.
The report of the public utilities com
mittee will receive the special considera
tion of the commission at its next ses
sion next Tuesday evening.
