PRETTY JAPANESE WIFE COMES
BACK TO MAN WHO SOLD HER
Klkl Otjata. a Japanese, came to Hhe
United States some years ago. lie got
along well, as Japanese do, but he didn't
always have all the money he wanted.
He was just like other Japanese In this
respect. Like other Japanese, Klkl be
gan to borrow. To add to his troubles,
two years ago he was Joined by a dainty
little maiden from the land of the mi
kado. They were married.
Klkl found himself in a worse pre
dicament than before. Instead, of sav
ing money he found that his expenses
and his troubles had been Increased
twofold. And he continued to borrow.
The first thlnr Klkl knew he was In
debt heavily In. debt, and his assets
were but -little. i
One of Kikl's Creditors was Ito 8ak
ama. a- Japanese of Portland. Klkl
owned Ito something like $(00. Bom
month ago Ito asked Klkl to "come
through" -he needed the money. Klkl
said he couldn't pay the bill, even If he
wanted to.
Ito, It seems, had seen Mrs. Ktkl
Obata, th cute little wife of Klkl. She
was pretty and dainty and petite, as
Japanese maidens go, and Ito liked her
looks Immensely. Again the two talked
about the debt. Ktkl said hs couldn't
pay. And along about thla time Ito
winked the other eyo. And while wink
ing he intimated that he was willing to
take Mrs. Obsta on the debt Klkl med
itated and finally decided. .
- One evening Mrs Obata 'was trans
ferred from the crowded quarters of
Klkl to the more., commodlog and
roomy apartments ' of Ito, 'the little
brown man. with the wink. Whether the
Mrs. was consulted about the transfer
has not vet come to light.
Ito and Klkl were contented and happy
.for a while, it aeema. Then, there was
a change for the worse. Klkl became
tired of her surroundings. She long.td
for Klkl and the crowded little quar
ters. So she thought and ah planned
and she schemed. -
Last week Klkl complained to Mrs.
Lola O. - Baldwin of the woman's police
auxiliary, that she was being detained
agaimtt her will. Mrs. Baldwin made
an Investigation and appealed to tho
United States authorities to take a hand
In the matter. As a result Ito Sakams
was arrested, charged With keeping,
supporting and harboring an alien who
has been In this country less than three
years and contrary to the federal laws.
Ito Is In the county Jail, a United
States prisoner. This afternoon he is
to have a hearing before a United
States commissioner.' His bail Is $6000.
So far there have been no takers.
Little Klkl has gone back to her
crowded little rooms home, and to her
Klkl. The Obatas will be the principal
witnesses for tho government against
the defendant; Ito Sakama. named In
the complaint as John oe Saft&ma.
Ito is much worried. He- fears he
may have to -go to JsH, and testde he
will lose the $400. Kls was only with
him a few months, be says. Klkl Is
worried, too. for fear even vet. aflr
all that has happened, he may be made
