Poultry Market AdTanced Again.
Another 4vance o Ho a- pound is
shown In , the entire -chicken .market
along Front street today. Mixed lots
re being freely elled for around 12c
a pound and a god demand is noted in
"hens sround U14e. 8ome dealers are
asking fraction more than these quo
tations, but so far as' known nothing
higher itr obtainable at the moment. -
The market for turkeys is just about
steady with a faint showing of dullness
noted. The general market-ranges as
high as ITHc for live birds of best
quality. The trade is railing mostly for
best quality and this accounts In a
measure for the difficulty In getting rid
of the poor, thin stuff.
'Ask Xigber Duty on Hops.
Herman Klaber of this city, a mem
ber of the firm of Klaber, Wolf A Net
ter company "id Herman Klaber & Co..
has been selected by the larger hop-
f:rowers of California to go to Wash
ngrton in an effort lo secure an advance
in the duty on foreign hops. The duty
stands at 12a but an effort will be made
to have it doubled at the next session
of congress.
roeclaf Actirity la Hops.
With -only a -few dealers showing
. orders for hops at this time, the local
markaMooks as , if the- activity, la arti

for ' the-'Oimteet" growths, there is but
little of this quality -remaining unsold
at the moment.;, '' Most-' dealers are -unable
to aecurr orders nd the activity
in Confined entirely to the United States.
There is no rush, of, business In the east
or in Europei, V- ' ' V
i Cranberry Market Is Firm.
There la a firm tone ruling in the
cranberry market' at this time. For local
stock the best quality Is moving around
stock is quoted around. $11.60 12 a
barret According to the trade new ar
rivals from the east will cost more to
tan'd her, , - .
Four, cars banana arrived in quit
good shape' this morning.
' Scarcity of Dressed Teal.
There' Is a pronounced scarcity in the
imiSpllea' of irfressed veal in- the Front
street market and In consequence
prices are being held very stiff. Some
dealers are asking a slight advance In
prine on this account. -
Arrivals of dressed hoas along Front
ntreet are again quite liberal and for
that reason the tone of the market is
just, about steady enough to maintain
values. .
Potatoes and Onions Steady.
' While there Is practically no move
ment of local potatoes to the south at
this time owing to the high prices being
asked bv home growers and their dispo
sition to hold, -the tone remains quite
steady along Front street and prices are
quite well maintained at former figure.
Onions are steady with no change in
values and growers showing not the
slightest disposition to let go.
Beans Are Firmer Araia.
'' Additional strength is agsln shown
inntiEhniit th Wn market nnri nrlcefl
on the 'varioua-i lines ara being firmly

Every evidence is at hand which Seems
to assure a better demand for cattle
within the near future. The principal
Improvement will likely come in well
elected stuff, for already 4he call for
this- grade is better than it was -a weeK
ago. .. While no sales have been made
over $4 for best steers, buyers are show
ing a better disposition to take supplies
tnan tney were a snort time ago. n
haa been onlv in the ordinary quality
that supplies were hard, to move dur-
wants were small, owing to their heavy
accumulations.
Hoi market Is holding quite well it
the advance of yesterday, although the
top for the stuff which arrived during
me past 24 hours did not oring more
than $8.10. '
Sheep supplies are small and the mar
ket la disposed to do better for the
finer grade stuff.
Expects an Improvement Boon."
"I hava no doubt that there will be
an Improvement in the market for ton
select steers within the ne.xt week or
10 days," said W. P. Gould of Benson
& Gould today. "The market Is showing
up siigniiy oeuer in tone even at mis
time. Hogs and sheep are very likely
to remain as they are for awhile."

Chicago. Nov. IS. Because of "the
lower closing of the Liverpool market
toaay, tne traaa nere snoweo a disposi
tion to bear wheat down at the opening
of the market today and first figures
were unchanged to o under yester
day's final. The increase In the Argen

do with the bearish tone abroad, but
even there" the weakness waa not very
pronounced.
Liverpool wheat started quite strong
with values Hd to MA. above yesterday
but the closing shows an actual loss of

After the opening here there was a

of more damage reports regarding the

sharp advance In the stock market.
Trading during the session waa on a
very heavy scale, all transactions for
over a year ago being eclipsed. The
sales to noon were the heaviest for fhat
period, reaching 918,600 shares. At 1

There was a y report that Harrlman
had sold 10,000 shares of U. S. Steel

the market. Tha decline of Vic in the
price of copper 4netal did not affect the
metal shares, for there was an advance

mission could be relied upon to cooper-,

val in all efforts ; made to brings the
famous Liberty Bell out here next yeari
for Portland's Rosa Show and Seattle's -fair.
Mr. Nadeau said In his letter
that he believed It would be one of the
greatest - advertising features the ' two
cities could possibly secure, and that .,
by all means the promoters of the two
big celebrations should leave no stone '.'
unturned in the endeavor . to have the
famous relie exhibited in both cities ,
next summer. - , , . -
The first step to be take by the fes-
tival DeoDle will ha to annoint a com- '
mlttee to work Jointly with an Alaska-.
Yukon-Pacific committee to handle this .
feature.- 'As soon aa nosnihle thev will
arrange for a meeting to take the work.
One o&, the f irat thlnga - will be to
ascertain the amount of red tape that
will have to be cut or unwound in order
to get the .bell out here. The expense
also must be considered, indications
are that it will require the expenditure-'
of several thousand dollare for a ape-j
