tells of hop trade
A prominent local hop dealer who has
been qulieian active buyer of late, made
the following statement regarding the
market to The Journal today:
"I am just In possession of the very
latest circular from the following Lon
don hop factors, as follows:
"Messrs. Thornton, Harryman A
Matthews write under date of 26th ult
thus: 'There has been rather more do
ing on the market during the past week.
Bome of the largest growths have
changed hands. The Inquiry for all
choice samples continues, and buyers
not finding these at all plentiful seem
more Inclined to turn their attention to
tne seconds.
"Messrs. Manger Henley, on the
same date, report: 'All the bright hops
are practically sold, and prices are
hardening. The merchants have diffl.
culty In finding hops good enough for
their requirements.'
"Messrs. W. H. & H. LeMay have this
to say (also dated October 26): The
demand for the best hops continues sat
isfactory, and consumers are now pay
ing more attention to tbe good medium
clans that Is clean and healthy. There
is little business doing in the poorest at
me exiremeiy tow prices now being ac
cepted for such.'
"Now. aa far as our domestic trade is
concerned, the eastern brewers have
been holding back, so far, on account of
tne yery Dearisn reports sent them from
the coast by a clique of 'short sellers,'
who expected a repetition of last year's
slaughtering prices and an equally large
overproduction of hops in the three Pa
clflo coast states. Being foiled in this,
their anticipation, and knowing that this
year's crop is altogether too short, sa
much so that we shall hardly have suf
ficient hops to last the American brew
ers till we reach another harvest these
freebooters In the otherwise respectable
hop fraternity are concoctinr all kind.
of schemes to prevent prices from going
up,' and principally among the former
are certain fictitious 'cables' that un
doubtedly in most cases are simply
'Ironmongrelled' right here at home.
The tone of the hop market is perfectly
normal otherwise; and growers aa Well
as dealers who have hops on their hands

themselves be browbeaten bv a certain

ACQUITS ON ASSAULT
AND BATTEBY CHARGE
Judge Cleland, acting as a Jury n the

flank after they had refused to leave
he building.

Mrs. Morse and had employed some'
boys to help on a part of the work. He
and the boys disagreed about their pay.
and at the time of the trouble tbe
boys came in force to demand a set
tlement. -They claimed that both de
fendants assaulted them without provo
cation, but the defendants said the boys
smoked, used "cuss words" and refused
to leave. .

SUSIE ELMORE TRIES
' TO MOVE BUT FAILS
.',, r. r
Susie Elmore moved last night. All
ner belongings were wrapped up in a
newspaper and Gerald McDonnell acted
as teamster-ln-chlef. at least he was
carrying the bundle. Susie is a woman
of uncertainge wno is not unknown to
the police. McDonnell Is much younger,
but the fact that he was In Susie's com
pany weighed against him. .
Inside the bundle was an .ancient
corset and two powder puffs. That was
the Ust of Susie's belongings, and when
Patrolman Small stopped the pair they
said they were moving from Mill street
to the London, a north end rooming
house. They were taking up a little too
much of the street in, moving although
ths bundle was not larce. so Small
stopped the pilgrimage.

' LOST VITALITY
"A merry heart doeth good like a
medicine, but a broken spirit drieth
the bones."--Proverbs 17-22.
The above quotation from the Old
Testament Is worth thinking over.. If
you are older physically than you are
to - years, "spirit .broken,", despon
dent, ; run down and . discouraged,
take a hint from the above
text and act accordingly. Don't make
up your mind to look after, your
health bye-and-bye, for - that leads
to never Action corrects mistakes, de
spair and neglect, increases them.
There Is ona little epigram that If ad
hered to will make a man all that he
can ever hope to be In this world In
health and wealth it is to "not put off
until tomorrow that which should be
dona today."
J take broken-down wrecks of hu
manity whether from past indiscre
tions or whatever cause, and build
them up as strong aa their fellows.
IMakeMenSftona
Enough to succeed in the battles of life, because skill and experience
have taught -me how. Don't fool your time or money away on body bat
teries or electric belts. Men have written me that their testimonials
were used without their consent and were not true, I keep them on
file to protect this statement. You can get more electricity for a
penny in a penny amusement parlor than is contained In the biggest
body battery fake on the market. There are failures in all' walks of life.
When a preacher goes wrong he says the church is composed of hypo
crites; when a lawyer is a failure he attributes It to anything but a
lack of brains. When some doctors are no good electricity streams
from every finger Up and every port from the effects of a 76o tin but
ton girth (in pictures only) at So much par. Gentlemen, be sensible and.
serious. If you get cured of an ailment you want it to be a real cur
and a lasting cure. If a doctor is able to do this he Is willing to wait
for his pay until you- are cured. That is our plan, but it is not the plan
of any electrio belt agency In this country and the reason is plain. ,
