City Will Improve East Mor
rison Street Jill Aftefr
Holidays.
Very soon after the Christmas holi
days are past and the usual rush-' of
trade Is over, the fill on East Morrison
streetibetween Union avenue and the
(Morrison bridge will be repaired. The
street wiu De torn up ror some time,
and It is the unanimous wish - of all
east aide merchants and members of
the push clubs that, although the street
Is In bad condition now, the improve
ment be postponed until after the
Christmas holidays.
"If he street -were torn up at this
time it would hurt all the business men
on Morrison street, said George T.
Atchley, member of the east side firm
of Morgan-Atchley, yesterday. "It
would obstruct the street so that the
greater part of traffic across the Mor
rison bridge would be diverted to some
other bridge and most of our east side
Customers would bpy across the river.
You can see how it would effect us.
None of the Burnslde or Madison street
bridge cars come past this store. Our
customers come here on Morrison bridge
cars, so it would not only affect the
merchants of Morrison street, but all
business men whd have stores or! streets
that are reached by the .big east side
thoroughfare.
the f IIP is to be improved with board
planking, it-being the opinion of the
city engineer that the ground has not
yet settled sufficiently to warrant a
hard-surface pavemenjt, which might be
ruined if heavy rains set in.
When the contractors finished the fill,
they neglected to take out the pilings
and beams which held the trestle and
the planking was laid over them. It Is
the general -opinion of east- alders who
will nave to pay for the improvement
in front of .their property and also of
engineers who have been consulted, that
as the piling and other wood work da
cays, it will leave hollow places in the
fill and that heavy traffic passing over
those places will break the pavement
Bids for the planking are now being
asked.

bred, oorn-fattened steers, which com

NATUROPATH.
In Drugs to His
Eyes Yet Uses None
One of the best known pharmacists in
Portland la a semi-Invalid. For years
he bas mixed and compounded "medi
cines and decoctions," as he terms the
stuff, but under no circumstances could
he be Induced to swallow a morsel of his
own or any one else's productions. And
yet he Is treated every day of his life
for his afflictions and is getting well
--but not on account of drugs.
"Drugs Arc the Great
est Fraud on Earth"
He says, "except whiskey and ciga
rettes.'' And he ought to know. He has
not only compounded but originated all
manner of "medicines" and has faith in
none.
NATUROPATHY IS
HIS IDEAL
And the afflloted of the world is coming
to it wiin a rusn. naience ana cense,
or Sense and Science, are winning great
battles these days. The doctrine of
Naturopathy has at last found entree to
the pulpits of the country, and I most
N, beln8 writTen. Surgery-will ever be
I necessarv. In a hundred times nor
I limited sense than now, but the drug
I fraud, poison and curse that I have
i railed against, almost alone and against
! great odds, in Portland for nearly ten
years, must go.
Drugs Are the Enemy
of Health
And the charges for practicing the de
ception of administering them are
simply scandalous. ,1 cure all manner
of diseases of men and women without
m atom of medicine, and my patients
get well and stay well. This is my
record. Hundreds will testify to It.
