PORTLAND WHOLESALE MARKETS
- Weaker tone rules eggs.
Locks like lower butter.
Cheese market very firm.
Peach price are higher.
Hops are moving again.
Poultry market is weak.
'A Dreised veal demand pood.
' Bartlett pears sell high.
Crabs are rather scarce,
Grain markets are more active.
Weaker Ton Boles Eggs-
' - While the general market price for
strictly fresh local ranch eggs remains
at 87ftc a dosen today, the market can
not by any means be considered firm:
The tendencies are all the other way.
One or two dealers were this morning
offering to clean up their stocks as low
as -STte lut buyers were not inclined, to
do business at this figure. They made
the atatement that eastern eggs were
' so much lower that they could get along
.; with them unless the price of local
stock shows a narrower range. Receipts
ef eggs along Front street are slight
, Iv Increased and the trade believes that
with a continuation of sunshine there
will be more liberal arrivals during the
coming week with the chances good
'"for lower prices.
Weak Ton la Chickens,
" There is a rather weak tone In the
chicken market at this time. While
-clean ups are reported made at 11c,
. some or the receiver are not willing
to accept this figure and arrivals ar
therefore accumulating on this account.
7 Arrivals of turkeys are mixed some
dealers receiving quite fair supplies
while others are scarcely receiving any.
. Weakness Gathering In Butter.
Prices are unchanged In the cream
ery butter situation today but the tone
of the market is somewhat easier. There
has been a disposition among receivers
of outside creamery to cut values In
order to keep down their supplies. City
creameries are. charging the . same old
prices for their best product but even
among .them there has been' a disposi
tion to ahade storage stuff.
Cheese market values are stronger, but
no change is shown in the list.
Only Best Bops rind a Bale.
There is an increasing demand for
best quality bops around 884c a
pound, with reports of 8 He business, but
ordinary quality Is not wanted, except
at very low prices and these figures
growers are snowing no disposition to
accept. This aame condition in existing
. in various market centers. The New
York Producers Price Current gives the
following view of the markets:
"The local market remains quiet and
: uninteresting. In New York state there
is a continued Inquiry for the best hops
1 at 12uU3ftc and several lota are re
ported, sold at these prices. Lower
grades are somewhat neglected and
dragging. There Is very little business
..i transpiring with brewers, who are gen
erally holding off until after election.
English and German markets. are un
changed, with a weak undertone on
everything but the choicest goods. The
' scarcity of the choice goods the world
over accounts for the wide range In
quotations which are beginning to be
shown.

Dressed. Teal Demand ts Good.
. There continues a very good demand
for the better class of dressed veal
along Front street and the call for
ordinary stuff Is somewhat better. This
leads to the impression that retailers
are not so heavily stocked aa had been
believed, and a good steady market is
now anticipated. Dressed hogs, unless
strictly fancy, are rather hard to sell
even at the prices now In effect
Brief Botes of Front Street.
.Market for peaches Is cleaning up
quite well and select stock Is now sell
ing as high as S0o a box.
Oregon and Washington celery Is In
, quite fair-supply t this time. Quality
Is far superior to tiat brought from the
: south and the trade Is therefore willing
to pay better prices.
Fancy Bartlett pears are finding a
ready sale along the street at this time,
beet stock moving at 11.75 box
Fresh crab supplies are rather scant
la the wholesale fish markets at this
- time, rrlces the same.
Apple market Is showing a slightly
better movement but ordinary stock ts
not selling so high because of the much,
more liberal supplies coming forth from
upper Columbia sections.
Front street sells at the following
prices. Those paid shippers are leas

Portland Union Stockyards, Nov. I.
Just one load of hogs made Its ap
pearance In the yarda today, no cattle
or sheen arriving. The tone of the live
stock market is exceedingly quiet at the
moment. After a spurt or activity in
cattle for select stock, dullness ts again
the rule and for best steers killers are
not offering over 34, which la li6o under
the recent advanced figure. According
to killers the general market ror top
steers was soarcely over this figure Our-
inc recent days, the only sales at $4.25
being in two Instances and these were
for shipments from the south. Packers
and killers say they are still loaded with
steers and are trying to discourage the
shipment of any more stun until tney
clean up.
Continue Demand for Oows,
Although there Is a very slow and
rather dull- tone In steers locally, killers
are still quite willing to take up all the
cows and heirers at recently quotea
values. The claim Is made that the
quality of the cows is better In compari
son with steers than ever before.
Sheep market remains quiet with
prices unchanged.
Hogs are steady nt 38 for best stuff,
but even then the tone of the demand
Is rather quiet. Packers are not in
clined to hurry purchases owing to the
heavy arrivals In the hog market of
late. -
A year ago today all lines of live
stock were weak In the local yards with'
hogs and sheep especially dragging.
Today's arrivals t livestock compare
with this day in recent years as fol
lows: Hogs. Cattle. Sheep.

RAISIN CLIQUE IS
(United Preis Leased Wire.)
Hanford, Cat, Nov. 6. The raisin
f :rowers of Kings county are today stgn
ng an agreement to hold their entire
crop of raisins fori 4 cents a pound as a
minimum price. 'The growers back of
the pool agreement are making a vig
orous campaign today to secure the sig
natures of all the growers In the county
following the signing of 755 tons as a
starter.
It is estimated that the crop of rais
ins in Kings county this year is 3,000
tons, but the movement of the crop has
been so slow on account of the low
price that the growers have adopted the
pool agreement to raise the price.
The decision to combine in a pool
was reached yesterday after a stormy
meeting of growers. Many Vrape men
of Fresno county, the greatest raisin
growing section in the world, have al
ready signed in pools to hold up the
price, and the growers here will hold
as long as they do.
Ine failure of the California Ratsln
Growers' association several years ago
has given the "high five" a hold on the
raisin market that the growers are try
ing to defeat In these pool movements.
If they are successful, it will mean mil
lions more for the California raisin
crop this year.

New York, Nov.-6. With the heaviest
