Waterhouse & Co. Will Bring Whole
; ' Barge Load.
It was announced thla morning that
'Waterhouse & Co. have chartered the
British barge Quatslno to bring a cargo
of coal from Nanalmo, B. C, to this
- port in the near future.
Tha loss of the coal laden ship Flfe
ahlre on Gilbert Islands a few days ago
will leave a shortage of about 2,000 tons
of coal In the local supply and the
bringing In of British Columbian coal
has therefore been looked for for some
time.

The case of the government against
five members of the Pacific Furniture
& Lumber company, charged with hav
ing conspired to defraud the United
States out of something like 30,000
acres of timber lands In Curry county,
which has been on trial in the federal
court for the last two weeks, will go
to the jury tomorrow.

McCourt began the argument for the
rosecuuon yesterday afternoon, setting:
forth the facts In the case and the evi
dence which had been introduced by
various witnesses and in the form of
letters and other accounts of the Pa
cific Furniture A Lumber company. Mr.
McCourt iald that it had been shown
conclusively that a conspiracy existed
and that he was satisfied in his own
mind that the jurors would reach a de
cision in fa-or of the government.
John Manning, associated with Mar
cus C. McLemore of Los Angeles for
the defense, argued this morning, being
followed by Mr. McLemore. This af
ternoon and tomorrow morning Tracv
