On one occasion, he says, ho delivered
two tons of th best grade of eastern

The remainder was hauled back and
piled up in the warehouse. A few days
later when Stevens wanted some hay,
b accepted without question that which
he had before rejected, and pronounced
it good. But Andrews & Son were put
to a needless expense through having
o aeuver toe nay twice.
The same thing happened with straw.
One load was twice rejeoted by Mr.
Stevens, but when It was hauled to an
other warehouse and again submitted
for his inspection, he accepted it aad
said it was good straw.
Mr. Andrews claims that Mr. Stevens
Is incompetent to Judge feed, having
never nao any experience until he waa
appointed toehls present position. He
was an ordinary fireman in 190i, and
nas risen to o oattauon oniei since
tbat time.

Madras, another at the mouth of Trout;
creak, workina In the direction of Mad
ras, a third on the Dea Chutes at O'Neill
and a fourth on Crooked river.
Although the work of surveying- the
Des Chutes route is betnr pushed brisk
ly by the Southern Paciflo engineers, it
