Ilcai'st's Man for President
Kesorts to Open Letter
Campaign Tactics.
. (United Pros Lcaud Wlra.)
Toledo, Ohio, Oct 23. A request for
the name or names of tha contributors
of "300,000 to the campaign fund of
Democracy" and the choice of Bryan's
political friends, are the salient features
of an open letter addressed to the Dein
ocratfa party nominee by Thomas I
Hingfen in an open letter published to-
, day.
The letter begins by denying; that
President Roosevelt was the author of
the charts that the donation cam from
the Standard Oil company and that an
answer to the question is not due the
president but is due to Hlsiten,
The Hearst candidate declares that
the question demands an answer-because
the people are wondering; who contrib
uted so targe an amount ana.wny.-
Proof pointed to the Standard Oil
company," continues the writer, "and
rather than explain this situation to the
people, Mr. Mack finally stated to the
newspaper men that he had made a de

"Now, Mr. Bryan, how Is the presi

campaign manager is telling tha truth
and when he is telling a falsehood T
Either Mr. Mack's statement that he
had the money Is a falsehood or the
statement that he did not have tha
money Is a falsehood. Which Is the

"You say that you made a false state
ment, and you apologise for it That la
right. But must the president apolo
gize because your friend Mr. Mjack
makes a false statement? Ths presi
dent Is not responsible for Mack nor
for Mr. Mack's falsehoods. Tou are re

Oklahoma governor withdrew .his suit
against his accuser tnrougn rear.
He classes Mack and Haskell as "bad
