Preparations for ona of the grandest
celebrations ever pulled off In Okla
homa are under headway for the enter
tainment of tha annual convention of
tha - National League of American
Sportsmen, which assemble In Law-
ton. October 11 to 14. Inclusive.
The Law ton chapter will put forth an
extra effort to arlve theaa prominent
citisens of the. nation a aplendld re-,1
ceptlon ana grama welcome, a no juaw
ton chaDter of tha Leu rue of American
Sportsmen met laat night In the rooma
of the chamber of commerce. Rear
Warden CoL W. H. Hornady was
authorized by the meeting to appoint
an executive committee of aeven to
. take entire charge of the coming na
tional convention.
An Invitation committee composed of
Rear Warden Hornady of the local
league: Mayor R. A. Jones and R. A.
8 need, president of the chamber of
commerce, will prepare a Joint- invita
tion from the three bodies to members
all over the Union; governors of the
states; senators, congressmen and state
legislators.
CoL A. C. Cooper, who waged the
fight to bring the national meet to
Lawton stated that more than 1 00 dele
gates would be present at the meeting.
The address of welcome will be deliv
ered toy Oov. C. N. Haskell at the ban
quet on the opening night of the con
vention on behalf of the atate of Ok
lahoma, and Mayor Jonea for the city
of Law ton. Talks will be made by
Bromlnent men from all parte of the
nlted States. Lieutenant Stecker. the
United States Indian agent, has prom
ised hie Influence and aaalstance in
anything that will add to making the
convention a success. He has charge
of the Klows-Comanche-Wlchlta and
Caddo Indiana. The amusement plans
are: An Indian village on me rair
f rounds with Indians in native cos
ume. Indian dances and Indian races.
These amusements will be novel enter
tainment for the eastern delegates.
Oeronlmo and Quanah Parker will add
their presence to the entertainment.
The local league will soon have a
membership of 300, and each enthusi
astic to make the Law ton convention
eclipse any former meeting or the Na
tional? League of American Sportsmen.
