TAFT TENDER WITH
CORPORATION VIEWS
Despite Disclosures Bearing on Corruption in Political
Lifts Candidate Never Refers to Trust Influ
ence and Its Evils.
By John E. Lathrop.
Chicago, Ills., Oct. 8. The men who
are directing the Democratic campaign
this year, or moat of them, express dally
wonder thaf Judge Taft should ignore
the ethical phases of the present discus
sion. They likewise are wondering that
Judge Taft does not give expression to
v4)ne single opinion on the trust question.
It is quite generally admitted that the
moral revival in recent years hea been
the one distinguishing feature of poll
tics. It Is cited that disheartening dis
closures have been made of corruption
' In official life, In campaign manage
ment, In railroad management. In bank
management, In life Insurance management,-
In many of the Industrial activi
ties or me people.
Yet, It Is cited. Judge Taft Ignores
these things, and sticks to personal crit
icism Of Mr. Bryan. And it is regarded
by the politicians as all the atranger
that. Judge Taft should do this, in th
lent of tne admitted personal pronny
f Mr. Bryan and the knowledge that

considerations weigh Just
the people more than any
closed down on all corporation excoria
tion. Ho hasn't uttered one word since
that time when the president printed
mat letter.
. "I affirm here, and with knowledge of
tbe lacta that President Roosevelt is
fooled If he thinks that Judge Taft
wants to go after the trusts. Or that he
is of a mind to roast bad corporations.
He Is not in srmDathv with the creal-
dent'a utterances. Were he he would
right now be proclaiming to the nation
his hatred of the sins of corporations
which have debauched the people.
"And until he shall have traversed the
country and declared that he la against
the wicked trusts the people are entitled
to believe that he doe not sympathize
with the president's utterances. His
silence convicts him of lack of sympa
thy with the terrific fight now being
waged to reform the politics of the na
tion." .
The bargains that have come from this "Greatest Value-Giving Store" have been many, but tomorrow's offering

FIREBUG TRIES
Mill ill BAKER
Citizens, Headed by Mayor
Johns, Will Take Dras
tic Action.
(Salem Bureau of Tbe Journal.)
Baker City, Or., Oct 8- Thl city and
Pendleton seem to have been selected
for destruction by firebugs. . Both
places have suffered from incendiary
fires of late as a result of which Mayor
Johns for Baker City has given orders
to shoot firebugs on sight. Last night
the paint shop of Landreth & Sheets
was partially destroyed by fire. The
side window to the place were raised
and 11 was plain to be seen that some
one had applied the torch.
BaKer people are very mucn wontea

Konnett's Words.
I could quote many politicians on this
matter. Selecting one man whose offi
cial character has been vouched for by
the 'chief antagonists of Mr. Bryan, Mr.
Hearst and Mr. Roosevelt, and who ha
been regarded as one of the most effec
tive trust fighters In the country, I
give herewith the statement of Francis
S. Monnett, former attorney general or
Ohio, who supported Mr. Roosevelt in
1904 and who now is oh the stump for
Bryan. Mr. Monnett earn to me:
"In my opinion, the ethical issue Is
foremost In the campaign. I go to th
extent of severity In Judging the sin
cerity of the two candidates. If I be
lieved Mr. Bryan would not keep hi
present pledges to maintain the execu
tive duty to enforce the law as passed
by the congress I would not support him.
But I believe he will.
"Studying the two men closely. I can'
see evidence that Mr. Bryan would, and
every indication Is that Judge Taft
would not.
"Take, for Instance, the wool trust
which has robbed Ohio growers. I am
a, wool grower myself, judge Taft was
a federal judge in Ohie a quarter or a
century. He charged grand Jungs aev

Grows Hair
and we can
PROVE IT!
ANDERINE is to the hair what fresh shower
of rain and sunshine are to vegetation. It
goes right to the root, invigorates and
strengthens them. Its exhilarating, stimulating and
life-producing properties cause the hair to grow
abundantly long, strong and beautiful. It al
once imparts a sparkling brilliancy and vel
vety softness to the hair, and a few weeks
use will cause new hair to sprout all over the
scalp. Use it every day for a abort time,
after which two or three times a week will
be sufficient to complete whatever growth '
you desire.
