William Peters Shoots Her
Four Times, Then Kills
Himself.

Ban Francisco, Oct. 6. in view of a
hundred persons, many of tbem women,
William Peters, a .tailor, shot his wife
four times and then killed himself on
the public street here today.

She said she left him because he spent

While the bullets were flying, scores
of frightened women fled to shelter.
shrieking; hysterically. As Peters turned
the smoking weapon on himself and
fell, several of the women who wit
nessed the shooting fainted.
Peters met his wife at Eddy and
Webster streets in company with Mrs.
Nellie LudolDh. a friend with whom I
she had been living since her separa
tion from her nusuano a montn ago.
Mrs. LudolDh saw Peters as he ap
proached his victim. Frightened by the
expression on .peters- race, sne ilea.
Peters held his wife with one band
and in the other he drew a revolver
from his pocket. The terrified woman
broke from his hold and as she ran
Peters opened ire. At the first shot
a passerby ran' for shelter, leaving the
woman a clear target. Four bullets
lodged in her body. At the first shot
she fell but the Infuriated man con
tinued to fire at her. Then without
hesitation he placed the revolver to
bis temple and toppled to the side-
Mrs. Peters was taken to the Cen
tral Emergency hospital, where she
lies in a critical condition. Peters'
body was removed to the morgue.

Los Angeles, Oct. 6. Judge Wellborn
of the United States district court has
established a precedent by orally de
ciding that the federal courts have
jurisdiction In rebate cases where the
offense changed has been committed
within the borders of one atate. Judge
Wellborn ruled that the alleged re
payment by the Southern Pacific to
the Penn Fruit company of money ex
pended by the latter In hauling fruit
to the freight houses was a matter with
in the provisions of the Interstate com
merce act.
The indictment charged the Penn
Fruit company of Riverside with ac
cepting a rebate from the Southern
Pacific for fiaullns oranges from Ar
lington to Riverside.
