quake clause" In the insurance policies
of the "welching Insurance companies"
was given a Stinging blow In the United
States circuit bourt of appeals In. a de
cision handed down yesterday, and the
men wnose suits ror insurance money
have been held up since the great -fire
of 1906 are preparing to bring action to
collect on their policies. -
The. case .was an appeal of Leon Wll-
lard & Co. against the Williamsburg City
tire insurance company, and tne decis

loss "caused directly or Indirectly by
invasion or. for loss or damage by or
through any volcano, earthquake, hurri
cane, etc."

the property in question was burned by
a fire that started in another building
far away that could be traced to the
earthquake.

words "directly or indirectly" should
have been used In the earthquake clause
