PRESIDENT'S SON IS VASIIIWG ffOOL
THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY CONSIDERED BY TOE DEAD OF OUR NATION
TOE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL DUMAN OCCUPATIONS ,
It ia certain that President Roosevelt must look upon the textile Industry as the. most im
portant of all human industries when he selects it as tha life occupation of his son. And that the
boy ma acquire thorough understanding of the business know It from top to bottom he Is
STARTED at the bottom, and his education and drilling begins at the BEGINNING, ts wit
ness this special telegram printed in the Portland Morning Oregonlan on October 8
Hartford, Conn., Oct. 1. (Special.) Tomorrow morning Theodore Rooae- " . '
vclt Jr., son of the president, will don overalls and jumper and assist the oper
ators in the wool department of the Hartford Carpet Corporation at Thomp
sonville in unloading the raw wool from the cars and in assorting and wash
ing it.
Young Roosevelt appeared at the factory this mornjng at 8 o'clock and
stayed around the office all day. The other operators at the mill watched his
every move as he walked from'one department to another, and when he went
to the honl; of Vice-President Higgins for lunch a crowd followed, and an
other crowfl followed him back to the factory a half hour later.
Tomorrow morning at 7 o'clock the president's son will go into the wool
department and work the same as though his name was Smith and his father
a hodcarrier.
It is thought he will get about $13 or $18 a week. For the present young
Roosevelt will live with Mr. Higgins, but later on he will move to a Thomp- ,
sonville boarding-house, where he will live the same as other boarders.
