This great decrease in beer manufac
ture in the United 8tates is having a
quieting effect upon the hop market In
all world's centers. While It is stated
that the production of beer outside of
the United State Is Increasing, It is
pot believed that the decrease of thla
country can ba made up by the In
creases elsewhere. Business conditions
throughout Europe are very similar to
the one noted here and this along with
local option is ' what Is 'Cutting down
the make of beer and consumption of
hnni. All world's hop markets are
nnUi.r thla season than ever before.
Europe cannot have consumed all Its
surplus supplies even though the beor
make there was greauy lncrea-rn. 1 no
fact that the large dealers still have
their warerooms full of 1906 and 1907s
shows that brewers are not in need of

"Little, If any, change can be noticed
in the general conditions of' the hop
market. The drought in this state has
not been broken and ' no pressing has
been done. A rew smau transactions
are reported at 10 13c, but dealers as
a-rule are not showing interest. .The
Pacific coast markets are also very
quiet and- we. do- not hear of -any tran
saction. More .samples, .however,' are
coming In from there Tind from all sec
tions show nice quality.- Business on
the local market Is at a standstill, and
with brewers it la ' only of ft- hand-to-mouth
character. ' The ' revised quota

"The Internal Revenue returns for

Weakness -and dullness Is shown in
the market for wheat futures, with Oc

lower for both the bid and asked prices,
while the bid for December delivery
closed lc under yesterday at 91c The
cash situation is steady, , though some

who have ships engaged are the only
buyers of note at the moment, and they
seem quite able to necure their needs at
