day will be the opening day of the
Eighteenth Annual: fair of the Eastern
Oregon district, comprised of Wasco,
Fherman, Wheeler. Crook and Hood
River counties. Premium lists havo
been out for over a month and the track
Srograra is made up. Several thousand
olfars in prises are up for the races,
and 1500 for bucklne contests. The
pavilion in which the fruits; cereals and
other displays wui be exmoitea win
be two blocks in length. .
Twenty Yakima Indians ten men
and four women will give some of
their tribal and war dances each day.
There will also be horse" races between
the Taklma and Warm Spring Indiana.
Arnold's shows will also be here, and
there will be a large number of special
amusements.
The merchants, besides contributing
largely to the fair fund, will close their
stores during part of the afternoon
every day so as to give their clerks
an opportunity to take In the races
and other afternoon features.

the effect that the United Iron works,
one of the biggest shipbuilding concerns
of the coast, had absorbed the Fulton
Iron works, which has closed and Is to
go out of business, were flatly denied by
both the Union Iron works snd the com
mittee in charge of the Pulton com
pany toaay.

plant, could not compete with the
Union Iron works, a United Steel cor
