Oil exposures,' until he learned that
Judge George W. Woodruff, assist
ant attorney-general, had already
made a public statement along that
line. - It was then announced at the
executive office that the president
would let -Woodruff's , statement
stand for, his own.
The statement of Judge Woodruff
Is in response io Governor Has
kell's public charge that the presi
dentinsisted upon granting a fran
chise , to the. Prairie Oil and Gaa
company and that all Haskell did to
favor the company was necessary in
order to comply with the law.
Judge Woodruff's statement was
made after- the records of the inte
rior department had been fully ex

that law.
