Collage Maid Breaka Jteoord.
College Maid's - grand performance
was the signal for a spontaneous out
burst from the grandstand. The beau
tiful black mare got off to 'a poor
start, else she might have lowered her
mark still more. For 60 yards she
leu into a nroken aallon. Then urn
struck her stride and settled down to
her work. At the quarter her time
was to seconds, and she flashed past
the half mile post In 1:02. She never
raitered ror a moment and covered the
three-quarters In 1:36. Turning Into
the home stretch she stood 20 feet
from the pole and then buckled down
to shatter her best mark of 2:09 made
at Belllngham and equaled at Salem.
Her beautiful skin glistened in the
sun. Her action was perfection Itself.
Two hundred yards from the finish her
hundreds of admirers, in the big stand
shouted their encouragment. She
rushed onward but tired in tha stretch.
tho fact, that she was leg-weary being
betrayed In her last 10 strides. Her
mark was 1:08. After tha ruiT ahe
