The officers of Vancouver barracks
hive sent out cards for a dance next
Friday evening In compliment to Colonel
G. K. McOunnegle, a new commanding
officer In the First regiment. Colonel
McGunnegle has been at the barracks
for several weeks and In that time has
made himself most popular. He has a
large coterie of friends In Portland and
haa become affiliated with the leading
clubs of the city. General and Mrs.
Brush have not yet returned from la
coma, where a great deal of entertaining
has been done for them.

Colonel and Mrs. James Jackson havj

Jackson, who will study art In New
York. Miss Jackson has devoted a good
deal of time to her art and her minla
ture work under Miss Llllle V. O'Rymi's
tutelage has attracted a good deal of
attention. Her friends look forward to
success for her.
Mrs. Frank Vincent Du Mond left
Wednesday for her home In New York,
after a stay of several months with her
motner, Mra. Henry is. Jones. Mr. jlu
Mond came out west with his wire In
Juna and conducted a short course In
art at the Art Museum, which wan
largely attended. Mra. Du Mond re
malned In Portland with her two chil
dren and aha waa extensively enter
tained.
Mr. and Mra. F. N. Gilbert entertained
Mlsa Bessia Luckey and their aon, Har
old. Simeon Gilbert, with a dinner Fri
day evening before the wedding. The

William N. Barrett. Jr., of Hillsboro,
a son of State Senator Barrett,, mid
shipman at the naval academy, was
the g-uest of Dr. and Mrs. Francis
James Bailey during the week. Mr.
Barrett la now visiting hta parents In
Hillsboro. Ha will return to Portland
Wednesday and leave Immediately for

New York to study art at Columbia uni

A pretty wedding took place Sunday
afternoon. September 6, at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. L. RuvensRy, 641 Second
street, when their only daughter -Clara
was united In marriage to Arthur 8.
Goodman of Terre Haute. Ind. The
ceremony was celebrated at the Hall
Street aynagogue, Rgbbl H. N. Heller
officiating. The church was prettily
decorated with ferns and tinted vine
maple leaves. The bridal cortege formed
an effective picture. The -bride" was
beautifully gowned In white mcMsallnj
trimmed with duchesse lace. A full
length , veil of bruesels lace-covered her
gown and she ... carried-a ... -bouquet of
the Highland Congregational church.
This was the culmination of an ac
quaintance that began before Mr. New
gent came to Oregon with the other
members of his family. Mra. Slaughter
Is a sister of the bride. The Slaughters
are On their honeymoon trip, having
been married in Kansas City recently.
Mr, and Mrs. Newgent will make their
home in Portland.
A wedding of note during the week
was that of Charles W. Henry and
Etoyle Smithson, which was celebrated
Saturday afternoon. Miss Smithson Is
the daughter of A. J. Smithson and the
sister of Forrest C. Smithson, who has
recently returned"' from London after his
victory in the Olympic games. Mr.
Henry Is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
K. Henry.
